Draft at Raven Cafe in Prescott. Black color, beige head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of pine cones dipped in coffee. Taste is very roasty pine. Delicious.

16oz can (the kind where the whole top peels off when opened, very cool) pours with a nearly clear gold body that supports a dirty white head that leaves behind spotty lacing. The opened can turns out to be a great place to assess the aroma after the poor. I get loads of tropical fruit notes like cantaloupe, pineapple and mango to go along with a bit of tangelo and spicy earthy faintly dank hoppiness. The taste delivers a pleasing blend of pineapple and cantaloupe juiciness to go along with some bitter grapefruit and mild levels of bitter onion like dankness. It gets a little juicy with ripe tangelo joining in about midway. In the background is a clean supportive malty base. Solid stuff here with plenty of juiciness and moderate hop bitterness to create a tasty harmony of hoppy flavors.

12oz bottle. Deep unfiltered brown-black body. Steady, foamy rusty beige head. Not much of an aroma, sort of muted. OK for what it is, pretty down the middle, straightforward...which is a good thing here. A solid Black IPA.

12oz bottle. Doesn’t smell impressive...grainy, dry, cheap. This is a pretty weak offering. Inexpert brewing, mild off tones. Buttery, grainy, certainly captures none of the sublime tones of the style. Definitely wouldn’t get this again, and would be traumatized had I picked up a sixpack. Avoid unless you are a serious ticker.

12oz bottle. Filtered orange-copper body. Thin, oily off-white head. Not that impressive of an aroma...some caramel, mild fuggle-like hops. Soapy and earthy, with a caramel malt backdrop. Not impressive at all, tastes like a 90s brewpub APA. Pretty weak overall.
