Just a fine sterile stout aroma. Make no mistake, this is a robust porter as the picture on the label infers. Hardley any pressure when I pop the cap. Big black pour that rivals some pretty good stouts. Some sizzle on the tonguie. Big porter personality with a sharp coffee kick in the ass for a finish. A little too strong for what I like in a porter. Bold , but on style if you are leaning toward beefy porters

Sampled on draft at the Rivertowne Pub in Irwin this beer poured a very dark brown color with a small beige head that faded quickly. The aroma was dryish and nutty with a faint vague spicy undertone. The flavor was dryish and nutty with notes of caramel, vague spices, faint floral hosp and a bit of tobacco. The finish was long and dryish with some caramel, molasses and spice lingering. Medium body.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with little head and weak aromas of stale coffee and roasty malt. Flavor is better, but still has a little of that stale coffee going on. A bit of acrid and slightly smoky peat, some dark chocolate and coffee... pretty nice but a little thin and almost watery.

Bottle. Pours a light gold with a thin white head and aromas of skunky hops and light honey/biscuit malt. Flavor is an interesting ebb and flow of sweet and hops... a bit of that honey buns sweetness washes back and forth with herbal and grassy hops flavors, usually settling on a slightly bitter and dry finish, but every now and again, a bit of pear sweetness sticks out and hangs on for the ride.

Bottle. Pours a murky light brown/dark amber with floaties and little head. Aromas are a mix of grain dust, pear and fruit and medicine of some sort. Flavor matches the appearance’s murkiness. It’s got a heavy handed grain presence with sweet fruit and a big herbal/medicinal hops presence before fading back into a sweet finish on the palate. Maybe it’s not my night, but this seems pretty uninspired.

Sampled on draft at the Rivertowne Pub in North Huntingdon this beer poured a cloudy orange-amber color with a medium sized foamy khaki head that lingered and left some lacing. The aroma was strong pine and grapefruit and light pineapple, lemon and pepper. The flavor was sweet and tangy pineapple, grapefruit, orange and pine with a fairly strong malty caramel base and some noticeable alcohol that somehow worked well with this one and a strong spicy undertone. The finish was long, tart and tangy with lingering mixed citrus and pine. Nicely complex and fairly full bodied. Interesting.

Called Deuce and on tap at the Shady Grove, good tacos! Big black pour with a tan foamy head that fades. Smells like a nice stout; bordering on volatile impy stout olfactory but never quite gets there. From the first taste I thought I was drinken a sweet or dry stout. Ive tasted sweet stouts that were much more wicked than this. But don’t be fooled, as the session continues I begin to get this spading action down the back of my tongue; the bitterness begins to set in. Oh no, onslaught of IPA. Yes, lots of personality. Building bitter on the back of my throat. Nice lacing down the side of the glass. Little detectable CO2 is driven over by the brown ale stouty tastes. Too much for a lager lover. Yes, fun beer experience with a bit of a shock for a finish. If you like brown ale near stout with a kick, better try this out; not your typical brown ale.

On tap at Fat Heads in Pittsburgh. Pours almost black with a thin head. Aromas are nice. A mix of peat, bourbon, smoke and prunes or other dark fruit. Flavor is sweet and earthy with a fruity sweetness. Rue and sweet burnt brown sugar dominate with a slightly distracting medicinal edge to it all.
