THE UNEXAMINED BEER IS NOT WORTH BREWING

There comes a time in every man’s life when he must ask himself – Should I continue working my steady and lucrative job or should I just quit and make beer? Well, for Norfolk-native Porter Hardy, the decision was a no-brainer. In 2012, the former home-brewer (and now former lawyer) traded his ties in for tap handles, and never looked back. With a stellar team around him, Porter entered un-fermented waters as one of the original craft breweries to set up shop in Hampton Roads.

16 oz. draft. Buffalo Wild Wing, Norfolk, VA. Flavor is mild bubblegum, honey-ish, and a note of black pepper. Lighter body with a thinner texture. This seems like a hybrid between a Hefeweizen and saison. Very yeasty.

Very hazy, super deep golden coloured body with a bright pure straw yellow coloured tint, all below a thick, super fast-dying, soda-like white head, with the body being around 90 per cent opaque. Aroma of very strong bananas, yeast, wheat, sweet fruits and a dash of caster sugar with a tart key lime bite at the end, but the bananas and sugars are definitely there. Medium-bodied; Very strong banana-y and wheatie flavours dominate at first with a tart lime and even hibiscus like note with some very subtle brine and saltiness here, but this really is about the fruits and the wheat - very easy-drinking with a high level of carbonation, evident from that head. Aftertaste is well-rounded with a lot of fruit elements, some good wheat, yeast and herbal characteristics, but the tart, briney and complex bananas and lime flavours are the best here with a light level of sweetness on the finish. Overall, a pretty nice fruited gose with a lot of effervescence and a nice flavour, especially for the summertime in hot Washington! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Harris Teeter in Arlington (Columbia Pike), Virginia on 18-April-2021 ofr US$1,87 sampled at my house here in Washington after spending the entire day smoking meats on 18-July-2021.
