Description
Nestled between the North York Moors National Park and the Howardian Hills, Ampleforth Abbey could scarcely occupy a more serene and picturesque location.

It was sometime in the early 2000s that one member of the community had an idea to utilize the excess harvest by making cider. Initially a hobby, Ampleforth Abbey Drinks is now run by lay staff for the benefit of the community, supplying many local farmshops, visitors centres and pubs with our award-winning produce.

Sampled @ GBBF day 2 from tap. Hazy pale yellow color, no head. Smell and taste some apple, pear, pretty sweet but I quite like it. Totally different compared to when I had it from bottle.

Bottle. It’s a hazy dark amber to brown body and a small, dense light beige head. The aroma is cellarish and with dark fruits and dark sugars. Some paint thinner too. The flavor has dark dried fruits and dark sugars, with some paint thinner and alcohol. Rather thin on the palate, with a pleasant carbonation level. Some paint thinner in the finish too, but the dark sugars and dark dried fruits dominates. Nothing special going on here, not at all. 140808

Bottle from Bier Huis, Ossett. Clear, dark copper colour. Thin, pale tan head. Dried fruit. Red cherry. Banana. Light toffee. Taste is faiy sweet, but has enough dryness, too, to balance it out. Carbonation is just right, and accentuates that dryness. Didn’t expect to like this, to be honest. Decent.
