Description
We started brewing in Burton-Upon-Trent in 1834. Then in 1898 we got itchy feet. So we moved down the road to the Albion brewery. We still like it so we’ve not moved again since.
We came to Burton for the water. Well, for the rocks the town was built on to be precise. The water trickles down through a thick layer of gypsum before we bring it back up again through our well. That’s what gives our beers the depth of flavour, character and crisp refreshing bitterness that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.

Cask. Reddish copper colour, white head. Nice hop aroma and bitterness reminding me of their Pedigree. Aromatic, slightly bitter and also slightly malty.

A red beer with a disappearing beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel and alcohol. The flavor is strong of roasted malt.

This ale pours a dark orange colour with a rocky white head. Scents include eggs at first, with rich malts and a small amount of roasted??? First sip is thin and watery with a small amount of bitters. A little purfume taste in the background. The finish is bitter and leads into nothing but hops. Alright but I’ve had better.

AMber with a short lived white head. Aroma is mainly malt with some lemon in it, with lots of bitterness in the flavour. Thin mouthfeel and too many bubbles.

(275 ml bottle). Commercial description: "Full flavoured English beer" - my ass! Weak malty aroma, very weak flavour. They sure haven’t used too much of the Golding and Fuggle hops! Quite dry. I used most of it to wash down a meal. Definitely not a beer I’ll buy again!

Burnt orage with decent lacework - herbs and some grain/bread in the aroma - somewhat thin-bodied - a bit on the sweet side for a bitter - some caramel - tea qualities (as has been pointed out) - mild hops in the finish, with some light, pastry-like flavor - this would probably be a lot better from the cask - tasty, but boring.
