Description
We started brewing in Burton-Upon-Trent in 1834. Then in 1898 we got itchy feet. So we moved down the road to the Albion brewery. We still like it so we’ve not moved again since.

We came to Burton for the water. Well, for the rocks the town was built on to be precise. The water trickles down through a thick layer of gypsum before we bring it back up again through our well. That’s what gives our beers the depth of flavour, character and crisp refreshing bitterness that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.

2008-11-03, cask conditioned at J.D. Wetherspoon - Shakespear’s Head, London, 6-4-8-4-16=38
Amber color; medium-thin creamy head, persistent. Mild aroma of caramel and hops. Good body strength, with sweet caramel flavor; the hopping is a bit fruity, in the end there is some flavor of macadamia nuts, lightly buttery. The final is pleasant, with nice hops (between a 4 and a 5). Well balanced. Very good.

Hazy orange color. The aroma, malty, is still light, but the flavor is very interesting, sweet, bitter and fruity, much more harmonious than the American IPAs. Long strong final.

[Cask at Charlie's Bar] The aroma is light dominated by yeast and esters. The color is an unclear orange and it has a small dense head. The flavor is very light with some notes of malty sweetness and yeast. A boring Ale.

The aroma is very light with notes of esters and yeast. The color is orange closing in on amber and it has a small bubbly very fast disappearing head. The flavor is nicely sweet malty with notes of oranges, other fruits, and hops. It ends on a nice dry bitterness.

A black beer with a beutiful brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of smoke and (chocolate) bitterness. The flavor is slightly smoked and malty and it ends on a great bitterness. A really good beer.

(Cask) Yellow-amber beer; slight, white head. Faint hops, typical Marstons' (Union?) smell. Bitter-English hops flavour. A bit soapy. Empty mouthfeel - for a 5.7 % IPA? I'll never get a Marstons' fan. I can't help it - maybe I just don't dig the Union style. Pedigree is the most overrated beer in the world, IMO, and this is similar.
