2024-09-23, can, almost 4 years old, 8-4-8-3-16=39
So, I didn't take my own adise, and so we are, 3 years after my previous can (Nov 2021). It's lean, very little residual sweetness, good dark character (cacao, chocolate, burnt sugar), but also some dark fruits that may be a very faint sign of Brett. Still liking it, though.

2021-01-23, can from The Gull, North Vancouver, 8-4-8-4-17=41
Strong chocolate character; not too sweet, with some heat, but still with enough body, this mouthfeel should please both sides of IS lovers; mild flavour of toasted nuts. Less deep than I remembered, but very well balanced and harmonious. Reminder to self: don't cellar for too long.

Black colour with creamy brown head. Very nice aroma, roasted malt, coffee. The mouthfeel is smooth, moderately sweet, the chocolate is upfront, followed by some coffee, milk, light roasted coconut. Excellent.

16oz shared with Alex @ home. Appearance: dark brown with a beige head. Aroma: roasted malts, some chocolate and grassy notes. Taste: moderately sweet with a nice body, roasted malts, coffee. Overall: a good imperial stout, but I did not get any adjuncts mentioned except coffee. And even the latter is probably going mostly from the roasted malts.

Can, Cask & Barrel. I didn't realize this was going to be a new entry, I just liked the last one. So here we are. A thick, moderately rich body, oaty, nice coffee accents. Quite chocolatey. So pretty much as advertised, but complex and well made. This is a go-to winter stout for me up here.

473mL can, pours black with a medium light brown head. Aroma reveals medium roast, coconut, cocoa, and light coffee. Flavour is full of powerful roasted malt, accentuated by light coconut and cocoa nibs, and a touch of espresso. The adjuncts are really nicely incorporated, while the oats seem to provide ample mouthfeel. Excellent.

473ml can. Named after Lord Byron's 'Darkness' poem. Pours a clear dark brown with red hue and a small, creamy, long lasting, tan head that laces. Mild, sweet aroma of roasted malt, milk chocolate, caramel and earth. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, cocoa, caramel, earth, ash, light licorice and oats in a dry, mild bitter coffee finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Pretty simple, but tasty.

473ml can. Pours a hazy orange-gold with yeast particles in suspension and a medium, foamy, long lasting, white head that leaves soapy lacing. Semi-sweet aroma of wheat malt, apricot, earthy yeast and floral hops. Sweet flavour of bready wheat malt, apricot, white wine, earthy yeast, floral hops and a hint of black pepper in a dry, mild bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Well balanced and easy to drink.
