Bomber, Thanks Chris!
A - Pitch black, minor half finger espresso head. Nitro level carbs, nice legs.
S - Holy roast bomb. It has a slight medicinal nose paired with licorice and corn chips
T - Ashy roast high bitterness with a touch of vanilla. The whiskey comes in but they’re not well melded whiskey and beer are sort of separate. Toasted almonds, minor peanut. Finish is booze bomb.
M - Minor creamy, pretty toasty, full bodied
O - Great beer but let’s see what happens in a year.

22 oz. bottle from Craft Beer Cellar, Waterbury, Vt. 2013 vintage. I enjoyed this in a snifter. Light head retention on the way down. Aroma is mostly bourbon forward with oak and chocolate malts underneath. Flavor starts off with vanilla bourbon and oak, followed by light cocoa and chocolate. The finish has the presence of alcohol. The body is much thinner compared to others in the style. It’s a nice stout but I would recommend letting some of this heat mellow out a bit before enjoying. Still a nice sipper and worth the price.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Leighton for this scarce cda. Opaque black - brown beer with a big pale tan head. Palate is soft and airy. Soft creamy malt with just a touch of dark character. Whisper of dark malt tang. Light piney hops, mellow spice. Finishes smooth. Good!

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours near black with a thick tan head. The nose is earth, toast, varnish, soap, juicy, orange peel, lemon sherbet and cocoa. The taste is roasted malt, toast, earth, cocoa, coffee, citrus peel, decent bitterness, ash and tobacco with a dry, roasty finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. A solid black IPA.

Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, big thanks once more to Leighton who infact provided 0.25 of the Black IPA’s on this database for one tasting, 09/12/13. Light black with a moderate tan covering that clears to a pond. Nose is earthy cocoa, light beef gravy (yup!), pine, hops, light tropicals. Taste comprises dank hops, light soap, earthy cocoa, hint of pine, light tropical fruit medley. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry earthy closure with a trace of hop bitterness. Ok CDA.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - I picked this one up in Portland, Maine. Pours black-brown with a thick, frothy beige head that leaves some lacing. Lots of burnt pine in the nose, so,e ark bread, suggestions of milk chocolate. Light to medium sweet flavor with earth, more burnt pine, well lasted bread, some ripe citrus. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation, dry finish with torched grass, pine, burnt bread, chalky cocoa. Decent.
