12oz bottle. Cherry brown, unfiltered body. Thin, steady off-white head. Smoky sweet peat aroma. I was really quite scared when I read the two previous ratings, but actually this is quite tasty, an interesting merge of a big excessively smoked Scottish Ale and a Barleywine. There is something meaty about this one, sticky sweet charred BBQ tones. Drinkable for the ABV, clean enough. Unique, well worth a try if you enjoy smoke beers or barleywines.

Bottled. Black and it starts with a nice head. Low carbonation. Lightly roast flavor and some vegetable character. Grain and some alcohol. It isn’t very good, thin palate. "Stout brewed with artificial flavor?" I can’t believe that is the best they could do.

Bottle. Hazy amber body with a fizzy, off-white head, rapidly diminishing. Strong raw grain aroma with notes of herbs, earth and a hint of pine. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Taste of husky grain, citrus, orange, tart apple. The sweetness dries out in the finish. Average.

Bottle as Back Road Stout. Pours black with brown head. Nose and taste of toasted oats, coconut, roasted chocolate malt and dark cocoa. Light peat finish. Medium body.

Twin Cities Beer Festival. A very light hefeweizen with very little flavor or aroma. I can pick up the wheat, but bubblegum, clove, banana, or wheat sweetness are all missing. Virtually flavorless.

Bottle. Cloudy, deep gold body with orange highlights. Fizzy white head that quickly disappears to nothing. Aroma of clove, banana, toasted grain. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly tart. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Taste of wheat, clove and bubble gum that is unfortunately overshadowed by a solvent taste that lingers into the finish. The off-flavor is not overly strong, but it’s enough to be a distraction. In addition, this hefe is overly sweet.

12 ounce bottle from pepsican. Thanks! Back Road Stout label. Lots of yeast is left in the bottle. Pours an opaque black color with a thin fizzy head that quickly fades. The taste is rich roasted malts, oatmeal, caramel, coffee and bitter hops. Aroma of slightly acrid roasted malts. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Decent.

12 ounce bottle courtesy of pepsican. Thanks! Pours a hazy dark amber with fine floating particles. Thin creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of toffee malts, stone fruits and not much in the way of hops. The taste is toffee malts, stone fruits and muted citrus hops. Light tartness, faint lingering bitterness, low carbonation, low heat. This is underwhelming as an IPA, much less a DIPA.

Bottle @ Dan’s house, courtesy of pepsiedcan. Deep brown appearance with a small tan head. Spicy, candy corn, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg aroma. A bit fruity, a bit veggie, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla bean, caramel flavor. Not bad but definitely nothing special.
