Hazy blonde colour with a super-thin white head. Strong aroma of coriander seed, curacao and plentiful wheat. Medium-bodied; Assertive orangey curacao and a slight freshness from the coriander seed mark the taste. Overall, much better than expected! I had this bottle at the Winter Party at Oakes' place in Toronto, Canada on 05-December-2003. A large bunch of thanks goes out to Hey_kevin who sent this twelve ounce bottle out for us to sample at the party!

Bottled. Okay, call me prejudiced because I’m from Iowa, which doesn’t have a major brewing scene, but this is one of the best “ambers” I‘ve had. Has a nice malty smell and pours a thick brownish head over an excellent coppery, bubbly body. There's a big caramel and brown sugar maltiness, with the right balance of German hops to keep it from getting too cloying. Won a Bronze at GABF, where it competed as a Vienna, and at the North American Brewers Association where it competed as a Mârzen. Go figure. Just a short detour off I-80 at the Colonies.

12 oz bottle, Oct. 10, ’08. Worth a revisit, now that I have the experience of a few more wheat beers behind me. Golden pour with a little haze, a very brief and fizzy head, then nothing. Light malt smell with a bit of bread yeast in the mix. Taste is okay, but lacks the fine effervescence of a wheat beer. Some grains, not very smooth. "Liquid bread" is right, I’m afraid. Notes of wheat malt not easy to distinguish. But it probably was better from the brewer’s tasting tap.
Original rating: Nov. 5, ’03. 6-4-7-4-15, total 3.6. Draft, at the brewery. Thinking back, I believe this was the first microbrew I ever had, way back in the 1980’s. Today’s pour was a nice-looking, heady sample, with very little haze and a nice fizzy wheat flavor. An easy, pleasing beer.
