330ml can (best before the end of May 2012) poured into a ’Hougaerdse DAS’ tumbler on 5th July 2012. This was brought home for me by my parents from their world cruise. No head but the body was typical lager/pilsner: pale gold and thin looking. Sweet smelling and tasting; and not in a nice way really. Might be fine in a hot steamy climate but it didn’t work here in the UK. It was however better than the Duff beer I had before it.

33cl can from a Minimart in Phnom Penh. Drank it on the bus to Siem Reap. Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malt with caramel and hint of liquorice. Some burnt aromas too? Pretty sweet and malty with some bitterness. Quite well balanced and very drinkable. Nice foreign stout! (2012-05-01)

33cl can, 5% made in Cambodia. From a mini-marked im Phnom Penh. Pours light golden with a white head. Aroma of sweet malt and cooked vegetables with a hint of hops. Pretty sweet with a light malty taste and hints of hops and bitterness in the finish. Classic SEA pale lager. Quite drinkable in the heat. Drank it several times both from can, bottles and tap. Sometimes it was not so fres, and sometimes it had a slightly metallic aftertaste and hints of basement in the aroma.

Wow - I did not even know there were so many variations of this brew! This is the Hong Kong verion, 6.8% alcohol and found in large 640ml bottles ubiquitous at local 7-11s. Has a decent dark body with good head, Sugary sweet stout aroma like a fake macro stout, but that’s better than a fake macro lager. Flavour is a lot of sweetness and maltiness with nary a hop or a dry finish to be found. Very sweet and sugary; needs balance. Right now it’s just coffee-flavoured alcoholic syrup, which works well enough sometimes, but only then. Sometimes.
