Description
Whiplash began as a side project for Alan & Alex back in 2016. Both working in brewing already, they rented tanks at the weekend and released single batch small releases for fun from their own place of work and other friend’s breweries around Ireland. Professional beer dudes who were gypsying for fun. Things escalated and by the end of 2017 Whiplash was its very own pain in the neck with the guys going full time, brewing Whiplash beer all over Ireland and Europe. 2019 saw the two complete their microbrewery build and establish Ballyfermot, Dublin as Whiplash headquarters complete with their own custom designed brewhouse delivering small batches of big beers. Now with a home, a kit and a small crew: Whiplash are very much the Dublin brewery at the forefront of all that’s modern in Irish beer.

05-09-17 // 500ml can from Dollard in Dublin. Enjoyed straight from the can. Hazy orange. Fruity hop Aroma. I just love the mosaic hop, it provides so much Tropical fruit flavours. This was fresh fruity hoppy with a solid bitter finish. Extra Points for the great design ;)

Can from O'Brien's, Athlone [060817]
Orange, light milky, frothy white head
Aroma of orange, soft pine, no alcohol
Taste of citrus zest hops, orange zest, soft sweet fairly juicy pale malt - I did get that bit of onion as well
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, good bitter sweet balance, rather sweet but bitterness of the hops offsets this, getting hint of the alcohol. Finish of bitter zest
Overall - Quite good overall, but just lacking that something

Can at the old dears, from Callans, 09/07/17. Pitch black with a handsome tan head that thins over time. Nose is roast malt, liquorice, coffee grinds, vanilla, milk chocolate. Taste comprises earthy tones, light black peppery spice, chocolate dipped raisins, light coffee strokes, touch of ash. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close. Ok stout but had expected more coffee presence.

Can at the old dears, from Callans, 08/07/17. Hazed golden orange with a well appointed off white head of tighly cropped bubbles that stays for the show. Nose is grapefruit, orange pith, bitter hop jus, citric tinged straw, light pine dusting, melon tang. Taste comprises tangerine, orange pith, straw, light pine dusting, melon, faint spice, toasted bread, grains, light mineral chase. Medium bodied, fine to spritzy carbonation, semi drying close peppered with earthy hop bitterness. Decent SIPA ... plenty of flavour and citric burst for the sub 4 ABV.
