Description
Flying Dog Brewery is a craft brewery located in Frederick, Maryland. It was founded in 1990 as a brewpub in Aspen, Colarado by George Stranahan and Richard McIntyre. Demand for Flying Dog beers quickly grew beyond the brewpub's capacity. In 1994, the company opened a 30-barrel brewery (Broadway Brewing Company) in Denver. Looking to expand again in 2006, Flying Dog purchased Frederick Brewing Company in Frederick, Maryland and began producing beer in both Maryland and Colorado. In December 2007, Flying Dog announced that it was closing the Denver brewery and would solely produce beer in its Frederick facility.

Bottled (vintage 2005)
Opaque black, big expresso head. Coffee, chocolate and hops in the aroma. Cold coffee, some herbs in the flavor. Liquerish, roasted. Roasted aftertaste too. Not so full bodied than with this ABV you could guess. A bit unbalanced - good anyway.

[Stockholm Beer Festival 2005] A clear brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet roasted with slight acidic hints. The flavor is sweet roasted, combined with notes of wood and nutmeg, on a slightly malty back ground. I find this closer to a Brown Ale, than a Porter.

Pours inky black with a respectable tan head - aroma of dark chocolate, coffee and plum - just a mild sweetness to this one - the flavor is mostly dominated by an espresso-like coffee bitterness, chased by some cocoa and mild alcohol - medium bodied considering the alcohol content - a little lactose and chalk at the back end of the finish - not a bad baltic porter, but good enough to honor HST?

2009-03-10, bottle at Svea, Malmö, 7-4-8-4-16=39
Mature caramel aroma, malt, alcohol, hops. Very good body strength, caramel flavor, chocolate, hopping. Balanced and long final, with caramel and chocolate again, sweet and bitter. Very good.

2008-09-01, draught at Cockney Pub, Århus, 7-4-8-4-15=38
Black color. Soft aroma, chocolate, mild roasted malt, with notes of vanilla and smoke. Good body strength, good sweet chocolate flavor turning slowly into a more roasted malt type. Good, for a Porter, but not much my favorite style.

2008-02-07, draught at Bishop’s Arms, Malmö, 8-4-8-4-16=40
Black color, creamy head. Nice aroma, hoppy, with some roasted malt. Medium body structure, witha strong flavor of dark chocolate, rising dark malt to the end, and luckily good hop, and a light fruity freshness. Very good.

2005-09-25, bottle at Oliver Twist, 8-5-7-4-15=39
Black color, big creamy brown head. Strong resinous hoppy aroma, light phenol. Good body structure, silky, malty, light liquorice, chocolate, strong coffee. Very long final (coffee-like).
