Description
Flying Dog Brewery is a craft brewery located in Frederick, Maryland. It was founded in 1990 as a brewpub in Aspen, Colarado by George Stranahan and Richard McIntyre. Demand for Flying Dog beers quickly grew beyond the brewpub's capacity. In 1994, the company opened a 30-barrel brewery (Broadway Brewing Company) in Denver. Looking to expand again in 2006, Flying Dog purchased Frederick Brewing Company in Frederick, Maryland and began producing beer in both Maryland and Colorado. In December 2007, Flying Dog announced that it was closing the Denver brewery and would solely produce beer in its Frederick facility.

Is it a porter or Scottish Ale? I’m not sure, but it was a decent beer anyway. Light brown. Flavors of coffee and malt, very straightforward with the taste. Kind of thin on the palate. Glad I tried it.

Pours a amber color with a large white fluffy head. Flavor is of course hops but not as hoppy as most IPA’s. The hops are more present on the aftertaste as it goes down. Middle of the road but would be interesting for those looking to try this style for the first time.

Looked like a wheat, smelled like a wheat, and tasted like a wheat. Unremarkable in any way, but everything I expected was there. A good effort; I would buy it again if it were cheap.

Bottle. Rich amber color with an off-white head that disapears quickly. Aroma of pine, citrus, but not that strong. It's bitter, but with a malt backbone. The problem is that it has too grassy of a flavor. Dry grassy aftertaste, but a nice body.

Not much to this brew. No real aroma or flavor. It is amber color though. Watery but drinkable and far from the best steam.

This was missing something. Typical hazy wheat beer appearance, but lacked the rich head I was expecting. Yeasty aroma, but none of the fruity esters typical of German Hefeweizens. Refreshing but largely unremarkable.

Dark brown, almost black. Almost no head. Reminded me of rootbeer without the fizz. Smell-- slightly roasted, though nothing I haven't smelled before. Taste: roasted nuts, caramel, coffee; slightly bitter, nothing but ordinaryness here. Mouthfeel: a bit light... could use some more kick! Not a bad beer by any means.

Looks like cheap mainstream beer: yellow (not gold), small head. Some lacing. Smells cheap. Grass with a kick. Nice flavor, thought a bit on the thin side. Pleasant... Pretty thin mouthfeel... watery... Drinkable beer, but not good enough to buy again...

Appearance: nice deep amber with a small, long lasting head. Tons of carbonation. Smell: Nice, with a hint of sweetness. Tatse: Nice and smooth going in, a bit of a "copper" aftertaste I'm not crazy about (tastes like if you put your fingers in your mouth after counting change all day). The taste is above average until the aftertaste, so it evens it out to average. Mouthfeel: Nice feeling. Not too thick, not thin. I'd have to say that this beer is drinkable. I might change my mind after a few, but as I sit here and drink my first one as I type, I'd say I might check this out again.

Appearance: deep orange with a very thick, fluffy head that lasts; lots of lacing. Smell: wow! flowers, apricots, and mangoes is what I was reminded of... a carribean summer day... ahhh. This is the version of the IPA that I enjoy. Taste: Has a nice sweet peach/grapefruit flavor, with a tangy bitter aftertaste. This is really nice! Mouthfeel: nice & smooth Drinkability: this is a nice beer that will make my rotation!
