Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark color, almost black, with small compact brown head. Its a decent stout, although it has a mild sourness that is out of place and some liquorice that is not appreciated; good mouthfeel; it also has some dark chocolate and roasted nuts; traces of yeast too. If I didn’t hear about the peanut butter, I wouldn’t imagine it.
Not a bad beer, a bit chaotic though.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Brown color with red-brown hue, compact head.
Very light aroma. Strong flavor of dark caramel, some burnt sugars that ruin the palate, and an aftertaste of old chocolate, maybe vanilla; some of the bitterness comes from the malts.
Difficult to figure out what this wanted to be; not pleasant overall, it’s off target and it’s excessive.

650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with moderate head of big bubbles. Aromas of piney resin and light cocoa. Flavors of acidic coffee and bitter dry dark chocolate. Overly bitter and lacking a good base.

Colin was a good guy, so I had to buy this beer. Cloudy amber with a bubbly head. Aroma is a bit boozy, with some earthy caramel malts as well. Has a yeasty, slightly tart and underfermented character, not professional calibre, with a touch of the rum influence late.

Hazy blonde. Thin head. Medium citra nose is nice, but the palate has a really lame toasty bkandness. Ok, for real, you cannot just dry-hop something and deliver utterly no follow-through.

This one was muddy and dark brown. The overwhelming character was actually coffee, rather than cacoa and quite honestly I wouldn’t have known there was cacao in this. The coffee lent the beer some body, which was important for the mouthfeel because regular Bucking Black Sheep is too watery. It’s still just glossing over a disappointing beer, but I definitely thought this coffee cask was better.

Medium brown, aroma is a little toasty with a little citrusy hop. A little light and watery on the palate, but with some bitterness showing through in the finish. This wateriness undermines the bitterness.

Cask at Tap & Barrel, Coal Harbour, Vancouver
Cloudy deep blond color, with frothy head and large bubbles, served in the usual ugly mason jar. The base beer, we know it, is a good sharp IPA; the sweet orange adds a touch of color in the middle, while the pineapple is almost absent but adding a infinitesimal tropical note in the final. The soft mouthfeel and light sweetness is a plus for the drinkability.
Moderately yeasty, still better than the average BC cask.

Cask at Tap & Barrel, Olympic Village, Vancouver, 16 oz
Dark brown color, almost black, with creamy brownish head, served in the ugly mason jar. The aroma is pungent, penetrating, coffee and pine resins. Smooth mouthfeel, nice coffee flavor, roasty but not ashy, minty, with strong bitterness, quite resiny.
Very good, with edges.
