Big and malty, thick, sweet, with a moderate hop fade. Looks as heavy as it drinks, with a lovely hazed orange hue. The nose comes off weak, malt-heavy with little sign of the Brit hops. Tastes along the same lines, with a massive caramel malt blitz followed by a tidy, neat bitter finish. This IPA is not for hop freaks, no, but it’s historical leanings make it worth trying, and those who find pleasure in the occasional English Strong Ale will dig this brew.

750ml bottle pours a clear, copper amber with one ring of white head. Nose is sour mash, metallic, corn, vanilla, caramel, apple. Flavor is sweet, boozy, rum, coconut, pineapple, vanilla, caramel, cake icing. Full bodied, sticky finish that is still a touch hot. 6 to 9 more months and this could be awesome.

Fascinating and unique, I have to thank my mom for introducing me to this brew. Never had a fruit scotch ale before, and the results are surprisingly alluring. Yes, this beer is sweeter than I usually like, but the fruit plays wonderfully off the toffee and caramel flavors culled from the malt, and the tartness of the fresh blackberries evens the thick, boozy finish.

I dig the hell out of this beer. Mild and earthy with a great malt base, the beer shines when the Simcoe hops take hold, providing a solid bitterness and a grapefruit tang that adds lovely depth to the brew. The abv rocks as well, meaning a second pint is easy to handle.

Solid stout. Roasty, with a nice mocha backbone shoring up a moderately sweet center. Mildly bitter lingering fade, with even more chocolate and coffee popping up. I could definitely use another one of these.
