Description
Kompaan had humble beginnings, with just a few recipes and a whole lot of gusto. The brewery was founded by Jeroen and Jasper, two school friends that have known each other longer than not. They shared a zest for life and were ready to put The Hague on the craft beer map. The brewery name is based on this friendship, two companions drinking together. As a modern, young brewery making contemporary, exciting beers, the name is spelt in modern Dutch, as “kompaan”, and not “compaen”.

Draft at Kompaan, Binnenhaven. Poured a mostly clear golden colour with a short-lived, bubbly white head. The aroma is light herbal. The flavour is moderate to light bitter, with a light, fresh, light yeasty, herbal, bready, light hop bitter palate. Not too dissimilar to the Thrill Seeker, but at 5% I expected more.

Draft at Kompaan, Binnenhaven. Poured a hazy golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy, light piney, citrus. The flavour is moderate to light, bitter, with a fresh, crisp, somewhat light, grassy, piney, light tropical citrus palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation. Not bad at all considering the ABV. It’s nice to see a light beer with flavour.

Tap @ at Proeflokaal Arendsnest. Unclear deep golden body under an off-white head. Aroma has malt and citric hops with a hint of rubber. Taste has more malt flavour than expected from aroma, nice fruity hop flavours and a nice bitterness. It’s a nice old school IPA that actually reminds me a lot of the classic Stone signature – at least the malt flavour.

Can. Mildly hazy gold beer, good off white head that actually lasts for awhile. Light palate, a little dry, good fine minerally carbonation. Light smooth malts, a pretty modest sweetness, probably about right to showcase this hop. Saphir on it's Jack Jones, seldom seen. Light cooling pine, soft and very slightly floral. A mild tangy bitterness. Mellow bitterish citrus. Lemongrass is a claimed flavour, well maybe a tad and a bit thin. Floral bitterness on the light close. Very much a noble hop and fascinating to try in a single hop IPA. Actually, there is some light but juicy lemongrass on the close.
