Description
Encouraged by treasured memories of his grandfather, Ralph decided to follow in his relative's footsteps and have a go at making cider in 1976. After moving from Shropshire to Anglesey in 1978 to become a farm manager for Bertram Bulmer (of Bulmer's Cider). Ralph moved to Old Badland in 1986 in order to farm for himself. It was a hard decision to make but, with the backing of his family, it was an opportunity not to be missed. He knew the farm had a small orchard of very old trees, and so began restoring it to its former glory...

Polypin @ Shrewsbury Steam Rally 2017. Pours hazy yellow. Aroma of moderately sweet perry pear fruit. Taste is acutely sweet, super tangy with a sharp tannic edge. A bit harsh if truth be told, but your palate does get accustomed to it.

Polypin @ Shrewsbury Steam Rally 2017. Pours an unclear pale orange. Aroma of bitter skins, orchard. Taste presents a distinctly dry character, relying on a bitter apple core presence rather than the apple fruit itself. Dusty tannins emerge to retain your attention, but the fruit you crave is non existent and it dries out all too quickly. Still, it is what is says on the tin so marked accordingly.

330ml bottle @ Shrewsbury Food Festival June 14. Deep gold colour, sweet ripe apple taste with slight acidic tang and some comforting tannins. Don’t usually go for the sweet stuff but this was nice.

Sampled on June 10, 2014, thanks to Nisse666! Bottle 33 cl.As "Ralph’s Old Badland Premium Welsh Cider" also marked "Med Still" and 7% ABV.Clear golden color, very small bubbly head. Sweet to tart, apple, a bit of sulphur and butter scent. Sweet to tart, buttery, sulphur taste. Buttery aftertaste. Weak flat mouthfeel, medium bitterness that is harsh like.Smells rather nice, taste does not follow up, falls well short. Could likely improve for my taste with some CO2 that lowers the pH a bit as well.

330ml bottle from Ralph himself at Ludlow Food Festival. Very sweet perry, almost too much, fairly acidic with a sharp fruity tang on the palette. Not that great if I’m honest.

330ml bottle from Ludlow Food Festival. Bottle says 7%. Fairly dry and acidic for a medium. Taste brings to mind strong, dry cider apples such as Kingston Black with a complex, tangy aftertaste that thankfully doesn’t get too syrupy. Nice stuff.
