Bottle. A fair bit sediment left in the bottle, but pours a clear pale gold with an inch of white head that fades to a coat. 3+ Powerful aroma of oranges and their blossoms, tropical bubblegum, dough, hard spices. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Full but fairly lean pale malt with pretty strong bitterness. Dries out with just a touch of alcohol. Lots of oranges, minor tropical notes, bark-like spices.

Tap at Slowbeer, Richmond, Melbourne. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy tan head. The aroma is caramel malt, liqouirce, chocolate, charcoal, light dry coffee. The flavour is moderate sweet with a smooth rich oily roasty liqouirce hop bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

500ml bottle. Black with a fat coat of tan head. Big chocolate fudge aroma with spices, peppery oak, white cherries. A slight boozy whiff that would suggest brandy had I not read the label. Well short of syrupy. Carbonation is low. Normal Red Hill IS is enveloping rather than brash and here the stout just keeps up with the barrel treatment - there's a rumble of milk chocolate and bread, the usual Red Hill German-accented spicy hops. Over the top of that is a punchy berry/ grapey fruitiness that gradually becomes both warming and almost sour whilst the oak becomes progressively spicier and more drying. Bitterness builds. Interesting and quite bold, perhaps lacks the harmony of some of their bigger beers.

Bottle 330ml (Beer DeLuxe, Melbourne). Roasty, coffee in aroma. Semisweet in taste, chocolate, coffee with toast bitterness and delicate booze. Medium body, smooth, tasty.

Bottle, 9C. Dark brown with a beige head. Spiced malty aroma with strong bread, chocolate, roast, some nuts. Lightish bodied, moderate carbonation. Less sweetness and more prominent roast than suggested by the aroma. Very clean with a moderately bitter but punchily spicy finish. Elegant.

Bottle, 12C. Amber with an off white head that’s soon a coat. Aroma of singed nuts, caramel, coriander, cloves. 6+ It’s not unpleasant but is harder and less welcoming that it might be. Just medium bodied, fairly low carbonation. Moderately sweet with a lean towards dry at the end which is spicy and moderately bitter. There’s a lot more depth to the malt side than suggested by the aroma - it’s rich but not that sweet, with toasted nuts, sultanas, wild figs. Bitterness is just enough to clean up without sweeping the malt aside. Lovely weight, balance and finish.

Tap at Red Hill. Slightly hazy gold with lovely tight white head that lasts all the way. Floral and somewhat doughy with Meyer lemons and spices. Grainy, slightly doughy and a little toasty with only some citrus but plenty peppery at the dry and moderately bitter finish. Not much going on in the fruity nor funky departments, but liked the punchy finish a lot.

Tap at the brewery. Gold with a lasting white head. Aroma of passionfruit, lime and honeydew melon. Light bodied, creamy and fresh. Fruity, moderately sweet with some hay. Quite bitter at the end. I guess I would have liked it to seem a little drier at the end. Refreshing. A fine quaffer.

From a 330ml bottle on 11/12/2016. Pours a light amber with a small head. The nose is light spice. Taste wise there’s a bit of Christmas cake, Belgian yeast and a bit of spice. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Not bad but fails to inspire any real enthusiasm.

Bottle. Darkish brown with a beige head that fades. Much like the normal Scotch Ale (which probably needs a rerate) but with an earthy and slightly nutty note. So toffee, some chocolate, a little dried fruit,, peppery grass. Seemingly a little more body. Seemed to have a bit of depth whilst remaining refreshing.
