Description

Speciaalbier is onze passie.

Bottle. Color: Very hazy golden, off-white head. Taste: Medium bitter, tropical fruit, grapefruit. Fruity bitter finish. Ok for a NEIPA, but personally I prefer more hop and less (grape)fruit.

Shared from bottle at / from Maakun’s. Hazy golden with white head. Sweet malts, pineapple, peach, grain, some skunky onions. Moderate sweet and bitter. Medium body and soft prickly carbonation.

Bottle shared. Hazy orange golden with big fluffy white head. Some lime, dank hops, soft minerals, dry grains, light orange, light flowers and hop burn, soft dry oats. Light sweet and under medium bitter. Under medium bodied with fizzy carbonation and a bit dry finish. Not a great NEIPA but a decent beer overall.

Dry-hopped blonde by a to me unknown beer company in Amsterdam, bottle from the Mitra in Lelystad. Tightly paper-lacing, fairly thick, very moussy, egg-white, stable head over a hazy pale orange blonde beer with peachy hue. Aroma of lemon-scented hand soap, lime flesh, bread crust, lavender, dried old grapefruit peel, rusk, leek soup, old potatoes, dusty cloth, dry breakfast cereals, dried meadowsweet flowers in a herbarium, cloves, baker's yeast, lotion, dandelion juice. Cleanly fruity onset, hinting at unripe green banana, a dash of pear and a touch of soapy starfruit, restrained in sweetness with a sourish undertone, notably minerally side notes also due to high carb, slick and supple mouthfeel. Cereally, grainy malt body with softening white bread-like but also explicitly soapy edges leads to a firmly hop bitter finish, drying and peppery with dried grapefruit- and field flower-like notes, light spicy phenols and lingering malt and yeast breadiness, but the latter relatively thinly so; rooty hop bitterness and soapiness linger. Bitter session ale, very soapy, feeling a tad fuller than the 4.5% ABV it contains, but by no means a session IPA as stated here (and this is not claimed by the brewer either!) - rather a hop-forward, 'hypo-alcoholic' Belgian style blonde, with an unnecessary and distracting lemon soap factor deeply penetrating its flavour. A bit boring but technically decent, could work well in a Belgian context but the Dutch should know better these days especially in a city like Amsterdam, which is delightfully teeming with classy craft beer pubs now. Very drinkable, but dramatically lacking in the fragrant, citrusy New World style hop aromatics I was hoping for - and even then it should be less yeasty to qualify for this style. Does feel 'fuller' in body than the average 4.5% ABV beer though, I guess this deserves some appreciation as well.

Pours hazy blonde. Medium white head. Smell is bit hoppy, malty. Taste can use more dryhop. Sharp and intense bitter. I truly hope they don't wanna market this as a NEIPA.... hops are not tropical, more spiced, green, almost herbal hops with a punch. Ok beer.
