Description
Labatt has deep roots in Canada stemming from its founder John Kinder. In 1847, a little more than a decade after arriving in London, Ontario from Ireland, John Kinder Labatt purchased London's Simcoe Street brewery in partnership with Samuel Eccles and by 1855 had become the brewery's sole proprietor. The brewery was later renamed John Labatt's Brewery, marking the beginning of one of Canada's largest and most successful companies.

In 1995, it was purchased by Belgian brewer Interbrew. Labatt is now part of the new company, Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev).

I’d been eyeing this one at the liquor store for awhile, wondering (or perhaps dreading) what this cheap lager may taste like in comparison to the oodles of other cheap lagers I’ve tried around the world. It pours with a slightly creamy but rather crappy head and heavily carbonated body. Aroma is all corn sweetness, not overbearing or disgusting however. Flavour is soft caramel leaning slightly into cardboard territory with a dry finish. While certainly not great, this is not in the drainpour category and probably isn’t too bad an option for a cheap back porch brew that can be downed by the dozen.

So this is what I do, travel the world and look for fine beers in every stop! Well, not exactly - but here in this town I’ve found a Labatt product that had missed my maw after many years of tracking ’em down, for better or worse. Has bleach white foamy head and lots of carbonation on a light yellow body, just about average. Aroma is rotting hops with a hint of sugary cardboard. Taste is a pile of beer-syrup stuff with a cardboard finish. Rather meh, not a disaster for a lite beer at all. Good enough to just be a bad lager!

Refrigerated 24 oz. aluminum can poured into glass. Clear pale with medium white head which dissipates quickly. Aroma is corny, light body, low carbonation, and some lacing. Taste is corny and some light grain. Not good.
