Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe in Davis, CA. Pours dark cherry/berry red with no head. Aroma is lite berry and wheat. Near med body. It’s fruity, but it’s very wheaty. The berry comes out after a bit, and it’s dry and astringent. The wheat keeps dominating the berry, and I think it would be better the other way around. Stil, if dry is the desire, this fits.

330 mL bottle. Pours hazy copper with a small beige head. The aroma is caramel, smooth smoke, and heavy malts. The flavor is very sweet, with a mild smoke profile up front, and a little bitterness and spiciness in the finish. The palate is medium, a little acidic, and smooth. Overall, this is a nice, subdued smoke beer. Very nice.

Bottle @ home. I really can’t remember where this bottle came from but here goes. Fairly transparent, maroon appearance with a light tan head that dissipates pretty quickly. Ashy, meaty, smoked, caramel malty, smoked ham aroma. Oily mouth feel. Fairly rich, sweet caramel malty, smoked ham/meaty flavor, slightly burnt, light campfire flavor with a smoky, caramel aftertaste.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours hazy copper with a slight, fizzy beige head. Aroma is smokey - but tolerably so. Med body - that thins quickly. Smoke is the flavor. Not bacon. Sort of mesquite. Good beer.

(bottle) Poured clear ruby red with zero head. Aroma was primarily boysenberry with some perfume, vanilla and perhaps a hint of redcurrants. Medium bodied with mouthfilling, fine, but plentiful carbonation (odd given no head). Flavour has a pleasant boysenberry start which is pleasantly slightly tart which gives way to some sweetness but is followed by a rather sharp, slightly unpleasant metallic and artificial finish. Overall it s OK as it is an unusual fruit beer and not overly sweet but it has some rough edges.

Bottle with Yanick. Pours amber with off white head. Nose/taste of pulled pork, smoked caramel malt, fire pit, peat, smoked wood and light charcoal. Tons of smoke - very dominate in the nose and palate. Medium body. On a side note, this is the second beer today I’ve had brewed with "manuka." Seriously.

From a 330ml bottle on 11/10/2011. Pours close to pitch black with a big head. Has quite a strong smoky, lightly roasted malt aroma. The flavours are relatively subdued, with more roasted malt and a little bit of milk chocolate. Solid but unspectacular.

Pours dark brown with a large, lasting head.Nose is quite floral and hoppy, light fruit and piny resin show along with some earthy characters... Not exactly too style hey? Underneath is lots of caramel with very soft peat and golden syrup.Same story with the flavours, seems more like an IPA than a scotch ale! Lots of caramel and resinous pine. Some heavier, richer malt shows later along with some warming alcohol and bold bitterness.Carbonation is much too high.I’m really confused, this is just so incredibly hoppy for the style...
