Can. 275 yen or so from Kyoto Isetan. Golden orange color with a ton of carbonation & a white fizzy head. A malty sweet aroma with a hint of caramel. Not too sweet though. The taste is a fairly well balanced malt forward pale ale sweet with a hint of tangy hop bite in the finish. Pretty refreshing actually but after having tons of American pale ales this is a completely different beast. Just thing of it as a regular ale & you won’t be so disappointed. Ok for when you want something malty & light but not too sweet.

29.06.2013, 0,3l bottle @ Hakkasan NY:
Nice creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly fruity, wheat, citrus, yeast, hay, dough, hints of banana and citrus peel. Taste is nicely balanced, wheat, citrus, hay, yeast, hints of clove, dough and banana. Mild bitterness, basically a really nice and balanced beer. And coming from Japan, it even beats most German weissbier!

For the 4th of July, I thought I’d start with. Japanese version of an American Pale Ale recently released by Ginga Kogen in cans & widely available for 280 yen or so from Yamaya. 5.5% it pours a beautiful orange gold with a thick light beige head which leaves behind no lacing. Mild citrus, pine aroma with some fruitiness probably due to West Coast hops. The flavor is a slight caramel, lemon, sweetness with a dry mild bitter finish. Nice mouthfeel. Not bad but sweeter & with more grain/malt flavor than I’d expect from an APA. Worth a try.

Blue tinted bottle with blue label, white reindeers and ’premium unfiltered beer’ under them. Pale yellow color with slight haziness, strong fruity smell, high carbonation, slightly bitter citrusy taste, long finish. A nice hefeweizen.

Bottle. Clear golden color, large whit head. Aroma of subtle banana and light citurs. Taste is like a subdued version of a German kristalweizen.
