Description

Pale yellow color, sparklng, huge white head. Fruity and barnyard nose: horse blanket, apricot, malts. Fruity, hoppy, a bit sticky, like drinking sweet white wine. I like the earthy notes found here. Hops in the aftertaste. Good beer but not the world premium class like the Malheurs I have sampled before.

11.12 oz bottle shared with Tiggmtl and Muzzlehatch on 11/6/05. Sediment in the bottle provides a hazy pale-gold appearance with light copper hues. Small white head is moderately retained with some spotty lacing. Tiny bottle conditioned bubbles rise. Notes of light, dry, citrus fruits in the nose combine with a biscuity malt dryness, light mineral-like yeast and some faint flowery hops notes. Delicate, in a word. The flavor begins with light pils-like malt sweetness, with touches of dry biscuits, not vienna-like huskiness. Dry, lightly tart yeast notes combine with light citrus-peel notes. As it warms, the malt comes through evenly and more sweetly, but it never gets heavy in any one category, remaining tantalizingly just out of reach. Mouthfeel shows tight carbonation, though a good deal of it to start, with some touches of water on the end. Dry biscuits, and lightly dusty/dry yeast remain on the finish. Though I’m certainly no subsriber to the bigger is better mentality, I suspect they could put a little more malt and hops in this to improve the overall flavor without really ruining its delicate nature. Well representative of the abbey singel, I suppose you could say, but I see no reason to ever drink this when I could just as readily drink an orval.

Bottle. Slightly hoppy aroma, perhaps a little sweetness too. Pale golden colour, small white head. Big-bubbled, but stable. Peppery flavour. Swells in mouth, perhaps a little too warm. Satisfying and potent when hungry. Dry finish, and quite clean.

Dark ruby color with good tanned head, lace, lively carbonation. Aroma is mainly malty and horse blanket with fruity and lemony notes. Full-bodied, carbonated mouthfeel. Hoppy bitter, alcoholic, fruity - plums, raisins with licorice flavors. Long bitter aftertaste. This is delicious carbonated quadrupel - beer to enjoy in the front of fireplace.

Hazy golden, big Duvel-like foamy head, lace. Complex aroma of champagne, lemony woody hops, eau de Cologne, frozen strawberries and fruits. When it warms, also some barnyard and horseblanket. Medium-bodied. Hoppy bitter and alcoholic. Semi-dry fruity white wine -like palate. Warming, good balanced tripel with extra alcohol, peppery spicey in the finish. I agree with my friend sayravai: much much better than Deus.

Bottled at Belgian Beer Weekend 2005, Brussels, Belgium.
Murky blond body. Mostly lasting, creamy white head. Nose of hops and hints of malts. Moderately sweet unitial flavour, lightly sweet finish. I prefer the other two Malheur Bruts.

(Bottle 25 cl) Orangey golden with a huge and rocky head leaving lots of laces.Very solid and potent brew with lots of malty sweetness balanced well by a good, flowery hop bite. Typical notes of yeast and alcohol. Decent if not exactly thrilling. 090402

RBSG 2005. Tight white head, hazy-orange golden color, but some floaties on top. Tart sour nose with yeast. Reminds me of Brut. Smooth, somewhat yeasty mouth of oranges and barnyard. Warming alcoholic finish.

Dark brown. Frothy head that dissipates quite quickly. Malty chocolate aroma. Malty, dry, oaky flavour. The alcohol gives it a harsh finish. A little bit too strong for its own good.

(Bottle 25 cl) Only 4,5% in my version. Golden ale with a pretty, white head and loads of floating impurities of the kind, that never really settle. Very light-bodied and dry beer with a medium bitterness and a perfect quenching effect. 140299
