Description
The Gueuzerie Tilquin began operations in February 2009. It was 12 years that a new gueuze-producer had emerged in Brabant (the previous was Geuzestekerij De Cam in Gooik, which began in 1997).

The Gueuzerie Tilquin is the first gueuze blendery in Wallonia. The company is located in Bierghes (Rebecq), 200 meters from the linguistic border, and is directed by Pierre Tilquin. Pierre is bio-engineer and holder of a PhD in statistical genetics. He then followed an intensive course in brewing science in Leuven, and he had his experience at the brewery Huyghe (Melle), 3 Fonteinen (Beersel) and Cantillon (Anderlecht).

Bottle - Petrolium jelly and lemon sweetness. Cloudy yellow with a quick dissapating head. Acrid and sour, wine like. Very dry hits the top of your mouth and back of the throat with a ton of bricks. A fruit is there but I can’t make it out, peach maybe?

Draught No head whatsoever; fully hazy, dull orange-amber beer. Sweet-ish, sour-ish, lambic, Brett... but also, sorry, vomit. Sweet, vinous, dessertwine, saddlesoap, caramelsyrup. Very slick, oily & filmy. Medium bodied. Not bad - except for the unlucky aroma in the nose. Rest is quite good for the style.

(Draught at Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas, Brussels, 17 July 2012) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty, sourish nose with notes of citrus, grapefruit, stable and sweaty horse. Malty, tart taste with grapefruit, citrus, a touch of yeast, stable, barnyard and a dry, tart finish. Medium body, dry as a desert. Refreshing and very tasty. Very nice traditional gueuze.

2010-2011 bottle - Pours hazy yellow-orange with a small, white, bubbly head. The wild funkiness dominates the aroma. We want the funk! The flavor is full of that good farmhouse, earthy, tart funk. It’s medium bodied with a lasting taste of wild yeast in the dry finish. It works well. I’ve had better lambics, but this is good.
