medium brown color. White head. Very malty, smoked cheese and bacon in the nose with faint hops. Malt forward with sufficient bitterness on the palate with medium dry body and layers and layers of smoke. Extraordinarily well executed. Head to head with Fujizakura Rauch a the best in japan with a touch more bitterness but never actually hoppy. Love this --- Beer merged from original tick of #426 Umami on 04 Jul 2024 at 10:11 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 7.5 | Texture - 7 | Overall - 7. Original review text: beautiful smoked meat, not too over the top but definitely Smokey with nice cherry character. Excellent to have. On a cold evening on a roof top of a shopping complex in Shibuya, Tokyo.

2020 version: Ushitora #448 Heads up! barleywine 11% 43 IBU Rich amber-orange-brown color with a big malty fruity (raisins) aroma and wafer malt notes. Very full bodied, smooth and velvety with sharp tobacco leaf bitter flavor at first then treacle and rich raisins plus candied figs or plums. No heat for 11% which is surprising. Quite good. As someone else said it’ll be banging with a year of age on it.

Tap at Kamikaze beer tap room in Osaka. Great pub with cask options. Anyway, this beer was incredibly fresh on keg. Light coffee in there and supremely drinkable.

On tap at Ant'n Bee. Clear dark golden with a small white head. Mild with hops, citrus, caramel and some malt. The finish was medium bitter. An ok one.

Hazy golden color. Tastes like suntan lotion, but fairly dry and tons of bananas. Good summer beer.

light hazy golden color. Creamy white head.smells like banana creampie with citrusy and slight lactobacillis notes in the background. Oh that is interesting. Very tart very light very refreshing but without the burnt rubber character or heavier mouthfeel you get with kettle sours. This is perfectly balanced. The wheat body and firm tartness work in harmony. Still get a lot of banana creampie character but generally I love this. Perfect summer beer but why am I drink in mid February!??

Tap at craft House Kyoto. Nutty coffee nose, chocolate. Nice use of coffee, chocolate malts, nice enough but body is too thin.
