(Bottle) Fantastic looking beer - black with ruby hints and big dense tan head. Pleasant complex aroma, mainly pine hoppiness but with some earthy, cheese and coffee hints. Medium body with plentiful soft carbonation. The tastes starts with some nice gentle sweetness - berries, candy. There’s dark chocolate notes in the mid-palate which steadily develops a complex bitterness which is hop and dark coffee / burnt bitter. Doesn’t quite work for me, the bitterness is too aggressive and dark.

On tap at The Local Taphouse. Pours golden. Citric soapy nose, but quite rich. The aroma also finds itself in the taste, which is enriched by sweet malts and fruity hops. A bit odd at first, but the longer the better.

The best beer at Alehouse Project’s Hopfest V. The barrel-aged transformed an already solid black pilsner into a gorgeously vanilla, caramel feast.

With its black body and frothy head, this looks like a great BIPA, but it’s downhill from there. The aromas of bread, sweet biscuits, orange peel and lemon prove a somewhat strange combination and in the mouth the citrus overpowers the malt completely so that there’s this odd mixture of grapefruit and boiled lollies. The palate is watery and the length short. Probably the worst BIPA I’ve ever had.

Pours black with a fading off-white head.Nose shows chocolate/cocoa, horseradish, roasted malt. The dominant aroma is definitely chocolate.More chocolate and dry roasted malt as flavours, along with the faintest hint of short-lived wasabi heat.Carbonation is a little on the high side.

On tap at The Scratch, Brisbane, August 2014. Hazy orange with a small white head. Refreshing with citrus, orange, wheat, hay and some yeast. Not bad at all.

Hazy blonde beer, not much head. Orangey-lemony aroma, there’s some tannic bitterness - citrus peel? - and sweet pale malts. Mild bitterness, but this doesn’t entirely come together.

Nut brown colour, slightly nutty aroma, earthy and quite toasty character w both malt and hops contributing. A bit yeasty. Off-dry finish. Some good elements bit the yeastiness prevents it all from coming together.
