Kamakura Brown Ale 5.5% Bottle picked up at a liquor shop near the daibutsu in Kamakura. Served in a flute type glass. Similar dark brown almost black pour as the Kijou Brown but this is somewhat clearer & cleaner looking. Thin head of light beige foam that leaves minimal lacing behind. The aroma is malts, sweet caramel, fruits(persimmons?) & cinnamon. Light to medium body with a zesty carbonation. This is a tasty beer, fruity & spicy vanilla & cinnamon/cloves kicking around when served straight from the fridge. From a half-pint glass it had a much maltier nose and came off as more of a straight up brown ale. Decent malty nutty flavors. I liked this equally as the Kijou Brown though that is a more complex beer this is just a good example of the style. My wife preferred the Kijou Brown.

Bought in Kamakura.6% drunk at the Daibutsu. An orange ish amber pour, quickly dissipating head. Malty fruit & caramel nose. The taste is a candy like malt sweetness but clean with no off flavors. Full bodied, satisfying beer. Malty sweet but with a crisp clean lightly bitter citrus finish. A very solid ale.

Bottle from Le Collier Marunouchi. Tart, funky nose, seeming obviously soured. Grapefruit, zest, peach, some band aid. Dark golden color with lace. Infected, funk flavor, some lactic yogurt, grapefruit, peaches and esters, and ass. Not good at all. Funky, bitter finish. Pissed off I spent good money on this. First infected beer I have found from them. Unfortunate.

330 ml bottle, as Kamakura Locosuka Beer, brought from Japan by my son Steinar. ABV is 5.5%. Hazy pale golden colour, large white head. Unique and fairly interesting aroma and flavour, notes of exotic wood, ginger and herbs, a hint of smoke. Medium sweet, moderately hopped. Belongs probably in the "Spiced ale" category.

Bottle brought back from a friend’s trip to Japan: Dull copper pour with a thin ring of beige head. Nose is sweet and relatively fruity, along with a little bit of esters and bread. The flavor is a nice balance of sweetness from the malts and florals. Crisp, but finishes a little metallic.

Bottle brought back from a friend’s trip to Japan: What a heavy little bottle! Crisply carbonated, pours a dark golden color with a bubbly white head. Mild aroma is mostly malt, light florals, and grassey. Nice body, thick and silky mouthful. Flavor is rather mild, but a pleasant herbal/grassy blend with the overal maltiness of the brew. Picking up a little grain. Finished a little watery.

Bottle from the liquor store by Kamakura station. Chocolate malt aroma, dried plums, some berries, vanilla, quite rich and nice. Almost black, with orange and a solid, long-lasting head. Rich malt, slight coffee-like roasting, dark chocolate, a bit of dried fruit, cola, cream. Rich and tasty. Nice body as well. Sweet, but good bitter finish balances. Medium body. The best of their beers by far. Good stuff.

Bottle from the liquor store by Kamakura station. Grassy green hops, straw, light golden malts. Medium gold. Sweet honey malts, grassy hops, light citrus, clean and crisp. Not much happening, but not bad either. Clean golden ale.
