Description
Firestone Walker Brewing Company began innocently enough: two brothers-in-law—Adam Firestone and David Walker—debating the subject of good and bad beer. Their search for a decent local ale finally led them to brew their own starting in 1996. The original Firestone Walker brewery was located in a converted shed on the family vineyard, where they experienced no shortage of trials and tribulations. From these humble beginnings was born one of the world’s most decorated breweries.

At Firestone Walker, Beer Before Glory is our mantra for reminding ourselves we do what we do because of the beer. Period. It’s our battle cry to never accept well enough. It’s the high aim for a perfect beer we will never make. Beer Before Glory is our craft, ever honed on the stone of humility.

Tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Smooth and coffee based. Licorice invades the taste in the back half. Bitter ash balances nicely.

Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, maybe some notes from bourbon. something resembling honey. The aroma is super well composed and blended and it is very hard to pick up the individual details. Aroma is very good.
flavor is salty, woody, charred woody, alcohol bite, roasted malts, hard roasted malts, almost but not quite a burnt caramel note. flavor is a lot less rounded than aroma, and have this dark caramelly/ burnt caramelly note that i don't like at all in my imp stouts. apart from that, the imp stout is fantastic and perhaps the burnt caramel will go away after a few years, i'm having this very fresh - vintage 2025 in sep 2025.

Can. Roasted malt aroma with notes of dark chocolate, earthy rye, grapefruit citrus and pine resiny hops. Pours black with a finger of mocha brown head that has excellent retention and good lacing. Starts with roasted malt. Dark chocolate and grapefruit flavors. Finishes dry with earthy rye and pine resiny hop flavors. Excellent black IPA.

12 ounce can. Hazy orange gold color. Large pillowy white head. Spotty lacing. Sweet fruity aroma is redolent of mango, peach, tangerine and apricot. Flavor is more of the same. Sweet stone fruits, citrus and pineapple purée. Some booziness in middle. Sweet, sticky mouthfeel. Bittersweet finish.

12oz bottle drunk 9/12/25.
Clear, filtered, dark. Small, light tan head.
Lead, caramel, milk chocolate, graham cracker and spicy bourbon. Lots of cherry and minimal lactose or Belgian character, to be honest. Maybe a touch of plaster and pepper. There is some light alcohol on the end, on account of the heavy filtration, I'd bet.
Soft, juicy, rich, malty, sweet and chewy with milk chocolate galore and plentiful spicy bourbon. Soft and succulent. Great balance with strong bourbon and spice. No alcohol in the flavor. Obviously these guys slay at blending, but I'd like to see this less filtered, even if that is a bit of a pipe dream. I get when blending 10 barrels it's hard not to filter your beer. But it can be done.
