3 week old pint can A: Purple tinted dull orange brown with 1/2 of foamy white head. Fair retention and clingy lace. S: Sweet/tart berries, wheat crackers and herbal hops. A bit of apple or pear. T: Dry, dusty wheat malt and a dry, tart berry flavor like a weak, dry, unsweet homemade wine complete with a hint of alcohol at the end. M: Again, dry and tart with that dusty feel. Average carbonation. O: It does offer some refreshment and is not nearly as sweet as I expected. So not bad but not a repeat buy.

12 day old pint can A: Poured 1/2 of lasting foam atop a hazy rich orange gold body. S: Fresh grapefruit rules over light tropical fruits and crackers. Smells more like citrus hops than actual grapefruit. T: Citrus overload. Orange notes of zest and pith. Grapefruit takes over next, actually tasting like fresh grapefruit. Juice and wood linger. M: Crisp and snappy with active carbonation and a lightish body. Lightly astringent, sticky and tart finish. O: Pretty tasty and not terribly overdone but the grapefruit doesn't seem to add anything and detracts slightly from what I'm sure was a refreshingly drinkable beer.

6 week old pint can A: Clear dark brown with a tall crackling tan head that held up well before falling to a ring. Stringy lace. S: Milk chocolate, toasted grains and just a hint of berry. T: Follows the nose almost exactly. Raspberry flavor is more pronounced but still subtle. Slightly roasty towards the end. M: Medium full body and fairly high carbonation. Slightly slick. O: Gizmo gets ham-fisted with some add-junked beers but this is subtly balanced and very tasty.

10 day old can A: Almost hazy rich gold with a short, fast falling head. Stringy lace. S: Beautiful. Fresh tart blueberries with faint banana bread beneath. T: Mildly tart, mostly sweet flavors thick with blueberry, yeast and grains. Ends sweet with some alcohol. No discernible hop presence. M: Round bodied with warming alcohol and light grainy astringency. O: OK but could be better balanced. Too much sweet blueberry puree.

2 month old can A: Clear brown black with 1/2 of tan foam that held up fairly well. S: Lightly roasty and sweet with chocolate, licorice and toffee. T: Quite roasty but with semi-sweet chocolate below. Mild hop bitterness is the only other flavor of note though suggestions of vanilla and cinnamon do linger at the end, lending a woody tone. M: Lightish body, slick texture and average carbonation. O: Not bad but I don't think the additions bring anything worthwhile.

6 month old can A: Dingy, orange amber pour with a tall lasting pillowy head and thick clumpy lace. S: Bread, wood and sugary caramel with a hint of alcohol. T: Pronounced sweetness as expected but balanced by a light apple fruitiness and mild bitterness. Dry woody notes linger at the end. M: High level of fine carbonation adds to the crisp, dry sensation. O: Expected not to like this due to the added candi sugar but the dry fruity aspect helps to provide balance, making it quite drinkable.

2 month old pint can A: Poured a whole glass of thick, light tan foam but which fell visibly quickly. Clear deep bronze color with the ice cream float head. Thick lacing left. S: Herbal hops give off apple notes. A host of bready, nutty, caramel, cinnamon and cola malty notes. Light overall. T: Mildly bitter with herbal or leafy hops. Spicy and nutty with caramel sweetness lingering with the hops at the end. M: Thin and watery with low carbonation and oily feel. O: Not sure if something's wrong with this or I mishandled it but it is lacking in every aspect. Not good. Maybe I'll try it again.

9 day old pint can A: Clear reddish amber with a short lasting white head and patchy lace. S: Inviting lightly sweet malty scent of caramel, bread and toast. T: Sweet and malty at first with toast and gingerbread giving way to spicy and herbal hops. A touch of orange peel and cherry at the end. M: Light and somewhat dry. Soft carbonation and a clean tart finish. O: Great appearance, aroma and tasty balanced flavors. A home run!

Super deep dark brown coloured body with a thick, two to three centimetre tall off-white and tan head that stays afloat nicely and leaves a small lace on the sides. Aroma of wheat, metal, bread, nuts, earth, toffee, caramelised sugars and a dry, grainy note with some flowers noticeable as well, but the aroma is quite strong and deep. Medium-bodied; Strong nutty and very earthy, rustic flavours show with some breads, grain, flowers, toffee and even some chocolate noticeable with a deep and metallic flavour that is strongest and ending with a light sweetness from the caramelised sugars and nuts with a dry note and some alcohol here, but nowhere close to the nearly 8 per cent that this brings. Aftertaste shows some dry, grainy and very earthy qualities with a touch of the metal and pungency, but not enough body to make this too strong and only showing a touch of the bitterness from the malts, but enough sweetness here to also dull the potent flavours, as well. Overall, a relatively nice and strong weizenbock with some rich notes, at least early on and in the nose, but fade relatively quickliy and linger only at the beginning, while the end is much cleaner and easy-drinking. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Total Wine in Cary (Crossroads Boulevard), North Carolina on 30-May-2021 for US$4,79 sampled at my house here in Washington on 08-January-2022.

Peppermint, chocolate malt, and straw aroma. Black with moderate brown head. Mildly sweet peppermint, chocolate malt, and mildly bitter straw flavor. Good body. Very nice.
