Description
Gizmo Brew Works launched into the public sphere in April of 2013. Gizmo represents the thinkers, tinkerers, and inventors who make up RTP and the Umstead Industrial Park which we call home.

At its inception, Gizmo Brew Works inherited a 2 barrel brewhouse, making it one of the smallest production breweries in North Carolina. Strong and feisty for its size, Gizmo surged forth into the competitive beer market. As Gizmo’s reputation grows, so does its size. In 2015 new infrastructure boosted its growth with larger tanks and a new 7 bbl brewhouse. Now in 2019 we set forth on an expansion to quadruple our brewing capacity as well as opening our first satellite taproom in Chapel Hill. In addition to small-batch taproom only releases, thirsty souls can find our beer in some of the finest retail shops and restaurants/bars throughout North Carolina. We of Gizmo Brew Works hold ourselves to high standards. We self-distribute our craft, straight from our brewery to our customers, ensuring the absolute freshest beer possible.

Inquisitive drinkers can drop by the taproom to sample our wares. We offer tours every Saturday at 4pm and most weekends feature food trucks and live music.

2 week old pint can A: Pretty hazy medium gold with a short, lasting white head and patchy lace. S: Citrus notes of grapefruit and lemon. Pulp, zest and pith. Faint biscuit or wafer malts. T: Dry and tart fruity citrus flavors. Lemon is more pronounced here. A peachy note joins and light biscuit lends balance. M: Coating carbonation and medium light body. Minimal hop burn. O: Not outstanding but nice flavors, comfortable texture and agreeable ABV make this worthwhile IMO.

Clear lighter pale, just barely detectable touch of haze, maybe. Nice white head. Nice clean fresh pils nose. Very light flavor, a very refreshing low alky beer! Good level of cutting carbonation. Perhaps a little watery, but not much; certainly retains a light beer attitude. In the middle this stuff goes down so easy. Yes, quite nice. On the finish there is a tad of that pilsner bite but overall this is a well balanced nicely made beer. I'm liking this, it will appeal to any american lager drinker.

11 day old pint can A: Huge dark beige head formed over deeply hazed pale orange murk. Excellent retention and thick lacing. S: Heavy grapefruit and peach notes with faint sugary wafer cookies. T: Bitter and citrusy. Grapefruit but with a bit more melon than peach. Some floral notes and a wheaty malt presence. M: Slightly astringent, otherwise fairly light with soft carbonation and a tart finish. O: Fairly typical hazy but at last it has some bitterness and low sweetness. The texture detracts from drinkability though.

T: Bitter and roasty with dark chocolate and black coffee dominant. Faint hints of toffee and molasses near the end. M: Light but not too thin. Active carbonation and lightly ashy finish. Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice two to three centimetre tall light brown head that stays afloat for a good while and leaves a subtle lace on the sides. Aroma of roasted malt, alcohol, a light dose of cream and vanilla with some more noticeable molasses and brewed coffee notes, but the chocolate in the nose is the strongest. Medium-bodied; Pretty rich, chocolatey and earthy malt flavours dominate here with a lot of vanilla and cream with some strong biscuity and malt notes that bring out the rustic nutty flavours at the end. Aftertaste shows a nice balance of the roasted malt, coffee, nuts and sugars here that blend well and are quite pungent, especially for the relatively low alcohol content. Overall, a very nice real stout that is slightly dry, but very malty, but the combination of cream, chocolate and sugars here blends well with the rest of the beer and finishes nicely, albeit deep and robust, sort of what you want for the season! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Total Wine in Cary (Crossroads Boulevard), North Carolina on 30-May-2021 for US$3,79 sampled at my house here in Washington on 13-November-2022.

Rich pink and orange coloured body with a lot of haze, perhaps seventy per cent opaque, all with a very thin, fast-dying off-white head that tops the beer and fades a bit slowly, but still there. Aroma of crisp strawberry notes with a lot of dough and bread along with a good kick of wheat and floral notes that provides some dryness and a soft balance of sugars in the nose. Medium-bodied; Rich strawberry and blueberry flavours dominate here with a kick of grass and dryness, but more of the fruits come through and leave a lot of sugars in the palate to balance out the light, but noticeable hops which finally make their way through near the finish. Aftertaste shows the strawberry, dough, bread and yeast with a lot of pungency from the wheat and malts that provides a strong rich backbone for the strawberry and sugars to snuggle up against. Overall, a pretty nice, very lactosey and sweet, but also very fresh strawberry flavoured beer with some lighter hops (this to me really isn't an IPA of course) that make this more of a fruit beer based on strawberries, but with enough balance throughout to be more of a multi-faceted option. Nice to sample, especially super fresh and on tap locally! I sampled this pint on draught at Raleigh Beer Garden on 30-May-2021 for US$7,00.
