Draught at the brewery on 8/11/16.
Lightly hazy/murky, maroon-mahogany body is topped by a small, dark beige head showing low retention.
Right away I notice much more barleywine-like characteristics than I do sour brown. Odd, as I’ve had the base beer and it’s quite given to red fruits, acetic acid and vanilla-tinged oakiness. But here it’s much more a raisin-caramel-vanilla character, with light melanoidins, gentle oak and just a hint of peppery whiskey. No alcohol or flaw.
In the mouth it’s similar. So strange! Where did the acetic acid go?? Raisins, caramel, oxidation and lots of vanilla, with nutty tannin, a soft maltiness and no alcohol or flaw. Odd.

Draught at the brewery, 8/11/16.
Moderately hazy, light, flaxen-blonde body is well-carbonated and topped by a good-sized white head showing strong retention.
Spicy phenols in the nose promise white pepper and very light clove, as the dry, rustic, grainy wheat/cereal character alongside a strong minerality provides incredible clarity and brightness. Not heavy on the banana or bubble gum, though the esters are certainly present to some degree. They further add softness to the beer and no alcohol or flaw is present.
Wasn’t expecting much out of this light rendition, but wow is this stuff flavorful...moderate acidity balances light malt sweetness and soft, lightly juicy esters as a crisp, snappy grain and phenol combination clears the palate on the finish, leaving a trail of minerality. A very gentle bitterness helps accomplish this as well, from the grassy, herbal hops, while white bread and light honey linger on. Awesome stuff and I love the assertiveness of flavor and yet crisp, drinkability.

Draught at the brewery, 8/11/16.
Light haziness in this tangerine-golden beer with a white head atop that is medium-sized and showing moderate retention.
Spicy belgian yeast in the nose gives way to moderate orange and lemon notes from the hops as soft honey-like maltiness balances in the background. Fruity, with some light pine and a pretty good balance between American hop and Belgian yeast. No alcohol or flaw.
In the mouth it has a juicy, citrus hop character that provide moderate bitterness. Lots of dry pineapple, nectarine and light peach from the yeast, with moderately spicy phenolics. The dryness and acidity mixing together from both yeast and hop proves a bit too much for me, though the malts are soft and comforting, despite being quite attenuated. Still quite enjoyable.

This one was amarillo dry hopped, though they are using various hops in different batches.
Good clarity to this light copper-blond beer. White head atop is small and shows moderate retention.
Not a ton of hop character in the nose, though amarillo is certainly not an intensely aromatic hop in the dry hop. Perhaps some fruitiness and light woody character, but mostly Belgian yeast adding light clove, banana, melon and apple, with warming but not sharp alcohol/ester notes, rich honey and bread (hint of sourdough) and lots of black pepper lingering on the finish.
Sticky-malty texture with low but fairly engaging carbonation and a good dose of black pepper and clove. Nectarine, papaya and light banana comprise the fruitiness here, which is enjoyable and bright. Maybe a bit too much sourdough-like malt character and a good deal of warming, but very trippel-like with a great spiciness from the phenols and a soft texture.

Deep golden body is accentuated by light hay hues and shows a moderate haze with a solid white head atop.
Juicy hops in the nose showcase lemon, mango, pineapple and other tropical fruits, with intermingled belgian esters adding other various fruits and a light pepper character. Malts are sparse, adding light biscuit and touches of honey, with no alcohol or flaw noted.
In the mouth it’s nearly explosively juicy. Soft, malty texture with high attenuation and lightly biscuity malts comfort the palate, as pineapple, mango, lemon rind and lime all add highly enjoyable, juicy flavors. The intensity/flavor grows as it warms and the Belgian yeast adds a fun layer of complexity and dryness not seen in the American ale yeast juicy ipas. Healthy dose of bitterness, but it remains very balanced. Awesome, awesome stuff. My favorite in the series yet.
