16 oz draft pils glass at Bier Station in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is a clear golden with a white foamy head. The aroma is bread along with soft earthy Saaz hop. The taste is a nice balance between the bread malt and the Saaz hop crispness, though taste gets a bit watery as it warms. The palate is light to medium bodied with soft carbonation and a slight mineral finish.

On tap at Scotty's in Champaign. Reddish brown appearance with a tan head. Lightly nutty, a touch smoky aroma. Body is a little thin. Caramel and pecans. Ok.

12oz bottle. Black Kolsch huh. I am all for stylistic deviation...but Black Kolsch just screams dumb ass brewer...especially when it tastes like a Schwarzbier or Dunkel. Deep brown-black body. Foamy beige head. Dry mineral mouthfeel, and also chalky bittersweet chocolate. Drinkable enough, but not that impressive of an offering on a few levels.

12oz can. Has some off aromas right off the top that hint at infection. The chocolate malts sort of even it out, but this is certainly an imperfect offering. Oily, sugary. Sort of hefty, but made executed in a lackluster fashion. Kind of like a cheap Caribbean Stout. Not impressive.

Pour is a murky brown with a small white head. Aroma is a nice molasses and brown sugar malt with some earthy esters in there. Flavor is caramel malt, some black tea and a ever so slight bitterness. Decently malty without being overly sweet or heavy.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is a decent roasted malt with some molasses and raw sugar. Flavor is a char malt that quickly fades and then I do get some odd mint like the rater below me got. This was just o.k. A bit thin around the edges but there is some decent roasted malt you just have to look for it.

Tap at Glenn’s Cafe in Columbia. Stopped here on a trip with two young kids from Wichita to STL. A beer and dinner was needed, and this was up to par. A bit too cloying from residual sugars and too bitter for my taste. Poured a slightly hazy orange with white head. Slight citrus and moderate cracker backing.

Pour is a hazy amber with a large white head. Aroma is sweet caramel malt with some marshmallow. Reminds me of cheap fizzy, pink cream soda. Flavor Is caramel and again with marshmallows. Not as sweet as I thought it would be but it’s a little too sweet for me.
