Pale golden yellow body with a small white head. Aroma of skunk, cardboard, funky malt and old hops-nothing good in this one! Light-bodied; Subtleties of sauvignon blanc in taste with a mild grapeyness, some light malt and a bit of fake sugars. Aftertaste is pale and unsatisfying. Overall, a bad beer but one I’d rather be drinking than any BMC product. Sampled after the Steelers lost in the 2004-2005 season. I sampled this twelve ounce ALUMINUM bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 02-February-2005.

Well I’ve actually got a story to go along with this one. I’ve mentioned in other ratings that I grew up around alot of swill drinking softball players. My dad played softball with a group of guys just about every weekend while the weather permitted for several years, up until I was about 8 or 9 years old. My dad hated beer but his friends drank like crazy - I guess it was cool in the 70’s to just be able to hold softball games in public parks and have coolers of beer sitting all around. The pitcher would usually keep a cold one in his glove while he pitched. Anyway, the point is that I would find lots of different kinds of empties around these places and became fascinated by the variety and began to collect cans. I gave up that hobby years ago but one of the ones I found one day that really stood out was a can of Drummond Bros. I remember it stood out as a very distinctive can with the ornate design and swords. Fast forward 30 years and I’m driving by Sams Club and get curious about the little liquor store they have attached...I begin to wonder if they might have something my regular store doesn’t. In general the answer was no, but I sure jumped when I saw sixpacks of Drummond Bros. on the shelf for $3. There was no way I could pass that up! Cold in a thistle glass, its a pale gold that approaches the straw color range. Medium fizzy head. Initial aroma hints a sulfur (not light struck, more the rotten egg sulfur). Not a good start. Fortunately that aroma faded and the sulfur was not detectable in the flavor. It was quite clean actually, nothing offensive but also no redeeming qualities either. Excessive carbonation gives it a fuller mouthfeel than it really had. Finishes a bit sticky and wet; not refreshing. A second can featured a distinctive metallic flavor (not drinking directly out of the can).

Metal bottle version: Pours crystal clear gold with a thin white head. Tiny bubbles and almost no lacing. The aroma is pretty sweet but nondistinct. Light-bodied and actually has a tiny bit of malt and corn flavor. At least there is nothing offensive going on. The finish is short and almost flavorless, aside from a bit of grain and malt. Of the macro Lager type beers, this is one of the better.

Aluminum bottle. Moderate malt aroma with slightly sweet corn aroma. Golden color with moderate head. Light sweet malt flavor with slight corn flavor as well. Standard American brew.

Can. This beer originally was widely available in the Indiana/Kentucky area. I remember as a kid collecting the cans because they had Kentucky Derby winner printed on the back - was the first beer I ever tried (at age 9) - could only stand one sip. Bought some just for the nostalgic appeal - Okay - comparable to Old Mil or PBR - a working man’s beer - Corn/barley malt aroma, pale yellow with small head. Light corn/barley malt flavor with hint of hops. Not better or worse than any other BMC pale lager. Interesting to try just to understand what our fathers/grandfathers drank - the poor bastards.

Very light yellow, small head that disappears quickly. Sweet stink coming off of the beer. Taste is thin, thin, thin. A single blade of grass seems to have fallen into my glass of water.
