A mash-up of American, British, and Belgian pales? - it sure is, and it really takes some getting used to at first - pours a hazy red - the aroma starts out with some dough and light diacetyl, with some earthy american hops underneath, and some faint belgian-ish fruity esters - interesting, but the diacetyl gets in the way a bit - low carbonation, medium body - no diacetyl in the flavor, thank goodness, but there is an odd mixture of english and belgian yeast character, bready british malt, and spicy american hops - a little minty and herbal in the finish, with notes of peach and melon - interesting, but not entirely enjoyable - I do applaud this brewer for trying new things, though.

I only bought one bottle of this, because I had no idea what it was, and the description on the label made it seem like it had a 50/50 chance of being complete crap - now I really need to run back and buy some more of this stuff to take home, because it is awesome - pours a bright dark red, with a lot of suspended particles - foamy, lasting head - it’s got the musty, earthy, belgian-ish aroma of an oude bruin or flanders red, with some lightly vinous notes, mild tartness, young brett character - full but soft carbonation - the flavor starts earthy (and remains so) and lightly vegetal (beets are apparent, but fade fast), and a tad sweet - dries out fast, and gets quite a bit peppery - this is complimented well by a young brett leathery character, and will more than likely work even better when the brett dries this one out even more - some crackery, gingerbread-like maltiness on the back end, with lingering brett character - this is really well-executed - I really hope I can find more of this - based on what I’ve had, this is a new brewer to watch.

The idea of a coffee lager sure seems strange, but I knew I had to try this - it’s a bit odd to get used to at first, since I’m so used to coffee being in the more "obvious" beers, like porters and stouts - however, the lighter character of the beer actually lets the coffee flavors shine even more than they would in those kinds of beers - you can taste the whole bean, and all the intense characteristics you’d associate with a quality, microroast coffee - despite this, the bitterness is minimal, and only manifests in the finish, along with a leafy quality - this is quite nice.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a small, off-white head over a hazed amber body. Aroma is strange, slightly hoppy with a burnt malt note and some salt. Taste is a bit of peat, caramel, light bitterness and a few fruity esters. I also got a weird salty taste that reminds me of oyster juice, which I didn’t particularly care fore. Water like mouthfeel.

Pours with a fizzy white head and a hazy golden body. Aroma is floral and spiced with clove, coriander, citrus, kumquat, and apricot. Taste is celery, apricot, watercress and pepper. Light bubbles.

12oz bottle split with Ann. Filtered orange tan color. Pleasant apple juice aroma. Sweet cidery taste, sour. Some sweet maltiness in there but still dominated by apple tartness. Well balanced and non-artificial, quite refreshing. Excellent palate cleanser. The creamy tastes start to shine through as the beer warms.

12 oz bottle purchased at Zipps in Mineeapolis, Minnesota. Pour is cloudy golden orange with a nice 1 inch off white head. Aroma is some toasted grain malt, faint. Taste is toasted malt, with some nice soft grass, and a semi bitter bite near the back. Finish has some mineral, is clean and brief. Palate is medium to thin, quite drinkable. Simple and tasty.

12 oz bottle shared by heemer77 at the 10/18 tasting. Pour is golden orange thinnish off white head. Aroma of coffee, full roastiness, and bready maltiness. The coffee is nice, really integrated with the nose. Taste is the nose, the coffee integrates very gently, through to the finish, with a limited after taste. Palate is thinnish, drinkable, nice. Unique beer.

12 oz twist off bottle purchased at Zipps in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Pour is black with ruby highlights and a pretty one inch dense khaki head. Falls slowly to reveal lacing. Aroma of peaty moss roastiness. Some bright pine hoppiness present. Taste is big peat moss initially, giving way to coffee roastiness and finishing with pine hop bitterness and more of the peat. Peat is really the main story here, and it is quite expressive. Creative beer. Palate is medium to thinnish, drinkable.

Slightly hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma has biscuit-y malt, grassy hops and a touch of diacetyl. Dry and malty flavour with fruity notes and a hint of hops in the finish. Very English.
