Description
Red Lodge, Montana has a long history with beer. Before the times of Prohibition, Red Lodge Brewing Company made great local beer. Many years later, Sam Hoffmann started Red Lodge Ales Brewing Company in downtown Red Lodge. By using soft, glacial water, heated by a solar thermal array, adding Montana grown and malted barley and naturally cooled by cold Beartooth Mountain air, Red Lodge Ales produces quality beer for today’s discerning beer lovers.

Nicely hopped Pale and as others have noted, easy drinking.

Big tan head of foam sitting on a pitch black brew.
Chocolate nose that leans towards the sweet side. Some mild roast to counter the sweet. Creamy smooth mouthfeel and very easy to drink.
Semi sweet taste for the reasons I mentioned.
Another nice offering from Red Lodge. 32 ounce Howler.

Despite the low abv, I can definitely taste the effects of the Bourbon Barrel aging. Quite nice it tis.

A black pour with an inch of tannish foam.
Smell is big on the vanilla! Rum isn’t far behind.
Taste brings no surprises. Smooth vanilla notes enhanced by a delicious flavour from the Rum. Very low level of bitterness but this is far from being too sweet. Some heat from the alcohol though, abv wise, it’s not a heavy hitter.
Smooth mouthfeel.

Pours a hazy gold from a bottle. Aroma slightly of honey, lacking the banana noted I would expect. Flavor similar, watery, biscuity. Meh.

Pours a dark amber from a bottle, heavy white head with lots of lacing. Aroma of pine hops, flavor of lemon, some caramel, rather bitter but well-balanced. Good beer.

22 ounce bottle.
Pours red, oh my, with a small but persistent head of foam.
The smell reeks from the Bourbon barrel aging but is also strong with the caramel malt.
The taste brings no surprises. Sweetish from the caramel malt, hints of booziness that isn’t really there from the Bourbon barrels. Weird for a BA beer to be only 5.3% abv but here you have it and it works.
Light end of medium bodied...ditto for the carbonation.
I am pretty impressed.

This pours a clear gold with a good head of foam that shrinks slowly
A mix of citrus notes in the smell; I get nectarines, oranges, grapefruit with some grass and a base of caramel malt.
Same goes for the taste. The bitterness is dominated by the fruits I mentioned with a bit of grass and a mild malt sweetness. A bit of the alcohol shows up too but it isn’t intrusive.
Medium body and carbonation. ..good mouthfeel.
Unusual tasting and smelling DIPA but it works for me.
