Description
Red Lodge, Montana has a long history with beer. Before the times of Prohibition, Red Lodge Brewing Company made great local beer. Many years later, Sam Hoffmann started Red Lodge Ales Brewing Company in downtown Red Lodge. By using soft, glacial water, heated by a solar thermal array, adding Montana grown and malted barley and naturally cooled by cold Beartooth Mountain air, Red Lodge Ales produces quality beer for today’s discerning beer lovers.

Bottle: Clear golden pour with a modest sandy head. Lots of sticky lacing. Nose is hoppy with florals and citrus, some peanut butter(?). Flavor is mostly floral hops, light citrus, grass, and an earthy malt. Not overly bitter, but balanced well with the malts.

Tap @ Famous Dave’s in Bozeman: Brownish copper pour with a thin off-white head. Decent bits of lacing. Mild aroma is lightly floral hops with a little roast. Flavor development is similar. Not much going on here past the earhty florals and light roast. Kinda boring.

Bottle: Clear copper pour with a large snady colored head. Sticky bits of lacing. Hoppy and citrus filled aroma with some decent maltiness. Not overly flavorful, the floral hops sort of give in to the matliness. Soft, grassey finish. Not the best from Red Lodge.

Tap @ The Silver Dollar in Cody, WY. Pours a dark brown with a large tan head. Nose is a mild blend of roast and coffee before a more intense flavor. Sweet and chocolatey, light roasty notes. Smooth, light bitters in the trailer. Easily the best of the three Red Lodge brews I had in Cody.

Tap @ The Silver Dollar in Cody, WY. Light, cloudy blonde pour with a huge white head. Nose is grassey, light wheat, and some faint maltiness. Tastes more wheaty and malty with a very light amount of florals. Light lemon is present, but it does feel a bit thin and watery.

Tap @ The Silver Dollar in Cody, WY. Poured a wispy blonde color with enough haze and a big white head. Light aroma of wheat and grass. Taste is malty with floral and grassey hop tones. A slight bready feel.

Another from Skyview. Ordinary brown color. Nice malt aroma, but surprisingly full and intense malt flavor. Lots of grain and some yeast. Better than most in the style.

Thanks Skyview. Hops aroma and medicinal hop flavor with wild herbs. Sinus clearing. This is not my thing. Gold color.
