Founded in 1988, Brasserie Fantôme has gained international attention and a cult following among lovers of craft beers. Owned and run by Dany Prignon, Fantôme is known for its unique variations on the Saison style of farmhouse ale, often involving the use of herbs, spices or fruit juice. Within the craft beer community, Fantome saisons are considered highly desirable and have developed a significant audience in the United States and United Kingdom. Ironically, while their complex, earthy, and herbal flavors have caused them to be sought out by connoisseurs outside of Belgium, Fantôme's products are difficult to find and not well known in the country of their origin.

Bottle. Color: Slightly hazy golden, large white head. Aroma: Grapefruit, spicy notes. Taste: Refreshing tartness of grapefruit combined with spicy peppery notes of red pepper. Nice contrast. Herbal hints. Starting more fruity, finishing more peppery. Medium body, just above average carbonation. Moderate tartness, light bitterness.

On tap at Blackback Pub, pours a hazy pale golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma has lots of lime leaf, murky saison yeast, coriander, and some stone fruits. Flavour is cohesive, with coriander, lime leaf, and rustic saison yeast. Not incorporation of the lime leaf and coriander. Very good.

Flaska från Etre Gourmet. Disig och lätt jästgrumlig gyllenfärgad vätska med ett stabilt stort vitt skum. Torr kryddig arom - koriander, bergamott, torr frukt, lätt funk. Medelfyllig, torr, lite bubbel, örtiga humletoner, lätt salt. Jag kan inte urskilja det svarta päronet från de andra frukttonerna, men det är en härlig, mycket drickbar torr, kryddig och fruktig "trippel" saison.

Pour is a hazy orange with a large and loud white head. Aroma is candi sugar with some musty barn. Flavor is a dry cracker malt with some grains of paradise like spice and finishes with some white grape. Not a estery yeasty saison. This was more dry malt with some lingering off spice. Still this is pretty good from a brewer that knows a thing or 2 about farmhouse ales.

Bottle. Gusher. Gold, white head. Aroma of crackers, lime, spices. Light bodied. Some chilli in the taste too and some unusual spice notes - tingly in a way that suggest Sichuan pepper. Slight bitterness. Some medicinal notes. Interesting Wit.
