Beer tasted at mcbackus tasting. Pours deep gold to orange with thin off white head. The aroma has pretty full citrus grapefruit and orange citrus hops. The taste is up front citrus hop bitterness and milder late addition hop flavor with orange and even semi sweet grapefruit. Deep in the back is mild sweet maltiness. It ends with increasing citrus hop bitterness including a tangy tangelo note. Solid brew but only an average IIPA really.

Deep hazy amber coloured body with an orange glow and a thin off-white head. Aroma of fresh hops, grapefruit, oranges, grass, alcohol and a nice bit of raisins. Full-bodied; Strong assertive hopiness with a lot of malt and alcohol following soon behind. Sweetness finishes up the beer with a little bitterness, but mostly a short hoppy flavour with malt. Overall, a good beer, but not an amazing Double IPA. Still good to try if you like the style and perhaps too much malt and sweetness if you don’t like the style. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Clarendon (Arlington), Virginia on 16-September-2008, sampled on 04-October-2008.

Bomber from Beer Run. Pours a clear orange-amber with a medium head. Decent retention and lacing. Aroma is citrus and floral hops with a sweetness in the background. The taste is hop forward, with only a mild malt backbone, but one that is sweet and sufficient. The hop profile is very complex, ranging from pine to resin to citrus to pine and back to citrus. Medium body. Alcohol is well hidden.

22oz bomber bottle. Amber-tan color, looks relatively transparent/potentially filtered. Very dry and piny taste. Citrus and alcohol notes as well. Bitter and crisp. Lots of fresh IPA character as compared with others IIPAs that walk awfully close to the Barleywine line. Mellows and becomes smoother and creamier by mid-glass. Excellent beer, a treat for the locals I’m sure.

22oz bottle-pours an off white head and gold/amber color. Aroma is resin/pine hops, with some sharpness and slickness of an I2PA, some medium malt. Taste is raw/bitter-resin/pine hops (nugget, cascade?) with some tea leaf/tannins?, with some sharpness and slickness of an I2PA, some medium malt. Right on style for an I2PA, which is a bit big for me. Occasional.

22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy golden orangeish color. Aroma of citrus with a great deal of floral hop aroma to it. Slightly alcoholic finish to me, but a decent enough IIPA, if slightly forgettable if not for the name and label.

Had this on tap at the Brickskeller. Pours a hazy gold with a frothy white head. Aroma is hoppy, heavy on the lemons. Flavor is all bitterness and hops, the light malt gives very little backing. Finish is a little sticky and bitter. I think IIPAs should have a nice, complimentary malt component to round things out. Lacking that malt, this beer was a little one dimensional for me.

Pours medium gold into a tulip. White head recedes leaving spot lacing to skim surface. Grapefruit aromas. Crisp and smooth with upfront resin and a strange aspartame and grapefruit finish.

Growler fill from Bellport Beer - I usually don’t care for Legacy, but with a name like this, how could I resist? - perfectly clear copper beer, with a very thin lace - strong hop resin aroma, with a fairly present sweetness underneath, with a mix of tropical fruits, like orange, pineapple, mango - fairly light-bodied for it’s strength, but it still has an oiliness to it - spicy, earthy, grassy hops dominate at first, and leave a strong, tongue tingling bitterness throughout - fairly sweet malt comes through in the middle, but doesn’t become sticky - tropical fruits show themselves, but not very strongly - this is pretty much hop/sweetness interplay, lacking any additional depth - a fairly common drawback to the style, but a valid criticism none-the-less.

Sampled on draft this beer poured a vibrant golden color with a very large yellow-white head. The aroma was strong piney and grapefruity hops. The flavor was piney and grapefruity hops with a light malty undertone. The hops coat the tongue and really linger.
