Bottle at Mark’s Sour Tasting on 06/16/2010. Hazy copper body with a small off-white head. Alcohol and fruit aroma with some caramel. Sweet fruit, funk and caramel flavor with some alcohol and wood. Medium body with moderate carbonation. 7/3/8/3/16 - 3.7 07/01/2007 - RBSG 2007 Grand Tasting. Clear golden body with a medium off-white head. Sweet caramel and molassas aroma. Bottled. A murky orange beer with a rim of beige head. The aroma is sweet malty combined with notes of alcohol, berries, over ripe fruits, and flowers. The flavor is sweet with a slight acidic edge and notes of malt and fruit as well as a light touch of brettanomyces and grrapefruit. The alcohol leaves a slight burn on the palate, though nothing considering the 15.5% ABV, and gives it a good body. Thanks madsberg for sharing.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of madsberg/Bov. Pours a slightly hazy, orangey brown with a yellowish head. Tart, brettish aroma with some wood. Medium body - the heavy alcohol is not felt at all. Extremely floral and perfumy accents, some oak and a dry finish. Interesting but not overly complex. 270607

Pours bright piss gold into a tumbler. Cork made a nice pop, but a vigorous pour produces no head whatsoever - unlike other reviewers - nothing, nada, not a bubble. Medicinal/herbal gameldansk aromas. Flat and oily sage upfront with a sour, lasting medicinal pepper finish which then change to a slightly bitter hop.

Bon Chien is a world-class beer. Aroma begins with sherry and oak. It has a dark brown color and little carbonation. Full, complex flavor. there is oak, apple, pear, sweet port and dry red wine, as well as light malt sweetness and just a little sugar. The abv is completely hidden, and I am surprised to see how high it is. Aftertaste of Belgian yeast.

Irregular, just off-white head, very dense, over amber-ochre beer. Touch of greenery, cypress, and a touch of acetic acid. Fruity, some coloured malts, pineapple-, and some other, discreet esters; some banana as well, lingering. Medium bodied, slight slickness. Generally speaking, not a bad beer. Just a tad of vinegar in the nose, and a bit lack of affirmation in the main taste.

Bottled. A murky dark red-brown beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet and sour like a Flemmish sour ale with notes of berries, alcohol, and apples. The flavor is malty with notes of apples and berries, leading to a dry woodey end, and the body is thick. Interesting but a bit weird.

750ml bottle; Nose of tart funk, caramel, and some purnes; Hazy rust with a few bubbles (not much in the way of carbonation); Flavor of an odd wine vinegar kind of tartness, caramel and alcohol, body thin for the style, with a tart alcohol finish (no hops evident). Is this a new style (says biere de garde on the label) a Barley Sour Imperial Ale? It will not displace my favorite barleywines.

Is it pizza or is it beer? No, just kidding, I dont get the pizza thing at all, really. It’s a damned fine beer and the sage isn’t overdone. Sure, it’s well-present and you’re not going to miss it in the least, but it’s no different than using hops in beer, and I think there’s a pretty strong movement for those. Granted, hops are probably a bit more enjoyable than sage, but I’ve always enjoyed gruits and the like and this is a nice change of pace. The unfiltered texture and natural carbonation give it a creamy mouthfeel, while the pils malt is tremendously soft, chewy and full of flavorful, rich honey suggestions. Some doughy yeast inevitably gets in there too, but everything is smoothed out and balanced by the sage. And add to that some very lovely, reserved belgian yeast esters of apricot, peach and nectarine and you’ve got a fantastic blonde ale a la sage. Crisp on the finish, with appropriate attenuation. Very quenching, no sign of the alcohol, nor any flaws. Lightly hazy blonde body has plenty of off-white head that laces well and shows strong retention.
