Description
Founded in 1924 by Pierre Saugrain, he produced the Vallée de la Seiche cider until his death in 1953. He was followed up by Maurice Lemoine. Lemoine introduced new products ('cidre brut' & 'cidre demi-sec') and started commercialising by introducing bottled ciders (75cl, 37,5cl and 25cl). In 1991 Michel Maman took over the company when Lemoine retreated. In 2001 the Maman company further expanded the portfolio with 'cidre fermier' using the fruit from an orchard in Côtes d’Armor à Kerpellen near the settlement Trévérec.
Today La Vallée de la Seiche is an innovative fruit product company with a wide range of innovative products, such as Cidre Rose - cider aromatised with roses, Ratapoire - a pear equivalent to Pommeau de Bretagne, etc.

On tap at La Cidrerie du Canal, pours a clear copper golden with a small white head. Nose has plenty of champagne-like character, intense rose, and apple juice. Flavour is medium sweet, with intense rose that dominates, along with sweet apple juice, and a touch of champagne-like effervescence. Not exactly refined or complex but I do dig that rose character.

(Draught at In De Wildeman, Amsterdam, 16 July 2024) Pale amber colour with frothy, white head. Fruity nose with apples, apple skin, citrus and herbs. Fruity, slightly tart taste with notes of apples, citrus, herbs, hay and a dry finish with mild tannins. Medium body, quite dry. Generous acidity. Refreshing and well balanced. Nice one.

Bottle, 75cl corked, at Jæren Ølfestival. It’s a hazy one, pale golden in color, with some bubbles. The aroma is rather sweet, with a sourish, chemical touch. Apple and apple jam, with some apple cake notes. It’s full to medium bodied, softly carbonated, and rather sweet on the palate. Apple, apple jam and some buttery apple cake in the flavor. Lasting finish. Too sweet for me this one, and a bit weird aroma, but it’s actually tasting quite good. 220813

Shared 750 ml bottle at Bryne tasting, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5%. Golden colour, moderately sparkling. Nice aroma of apples, hints of caramel and oak. Decent flavour of "spicy" apples, medium sweet and far from "brut". Might well buy again.

Notater fra en særdeles hyggelig kveld på Jæren Ølfestival 2022: lett uklar lys gylden med fint skum. Veldig søt, lett krydret eplesmak. Langt fra så tørr som annonsert, mer som eplebrus. Typisk trusefjernerpotensiale. Fra 0,75 flaske.

Pours fairly clear blonde. Scent is intense and outspoken. Brett, apple peel, funky - even a tad too funky to me, perhaps. Taste is very nice, full apple. Far better funk balance. Raw, chewy apple, skins. Lovely. Medium high carbo. Fairly fullbodied for only 4 pct - due to the medium remaining sweetness.
