Description
At the beginning of 2000 we founded our own beer tasting club as a group of friends. we tasted different beers, and soon our interest in beer in general and brewing in particular grew. This interest led to a brewing course and soon our first home-brewed beer followed. A delicious tripel. From then on, beers were brewed at regular intervals with trial and error. Our interest in beer turned into a real passion. From that passion we continued to develop new beers. The quality clearly increased. The choice of playing cards for our labels is also not chosen by chance. As the international capital of the playing card, Turnhout is also our birthplace. We are therefore very proud to be able to present an extensive and varied range to you. By following the increasing demand for our beers and the growing export demand, we decided to build our own brewery. Hard work was done in the spring to have the brewery operational by the summer of 2015. At the end of July we were extremely proud to be able to brew the first beer in our own kettles. In addition to a state-of-the-art brewing installation of 30HL, yeast and bearing tanks of 60Hl and 120HL and our own bottling line, we also have a cellar for the storage of barrels for barrel-aged beers.

In May 2020 a merger of Het Nest and Pirlot took place, but both breweries keep on operating independent from each other.

Uncontainable gushing to two glasses of irregular, rather dense yellowish foam over bottoms of hazy golden-copperish beer. Very stable head with shards of lace; end of bottle solid yeast. Herbal, even grassy nose with hopnotes, and a sens of wild, grassy grains. Dry, bitterish, faintly spicy flavour with clear hoppy & vegetable endbitterness. Touch of indistinct, but quite mild acidity. Medium bodied, bit slick. Longlasting throatbitterness; however, aftertaste has the only sign of some maltrestsweetness. Quite decent and very easy-drinking blonde. Not if you don’t like bitter - I do.

Huge, dense white head over fine bubbled, well-carbonated veiled yellow-golden beer. Very stable lacerings. Spiced hops, garden herbs, white candi sugar (?); rather penetrating, if not offensive smell. Again bitter, spicy hops, though the spiciness & peppery flavours are at least partly from the yeast, IMO. Little doubt left about the sugar, I would say. Slightly toasted notes. Feels really very spritzy; maybe medium bodied. Bit sharp, but pleasing enough. Misses the kind of depth a Saison Dupont would provide, however.

33cl bottle.

Had this from bottle at Vilvordia Bier Proef Festival, Jette, Brussels, Belgium Sat 24th March 2012 with Loz and in company of Simon, Jackie & David Golden colour with a white head. Soft and creamy but maybe the creaminess was just me drinking some of the soft pillowy head as this soon changed. There is a little metallic flavour, though this is quite clean tasting, dry finish, nicely bitter throughout. It’s a good beer. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov13 3.4

Bottle @ VBPF’12.
