Description
Just as many others brewers, Kevin started brewing solely for fun and curiosity. After a while, the urge to share his brews with more people than only close friends, made him decide to go official with his “ Small Batch Brewery”. Stubborn as he is, he wanted to keep the whole brewing process in his own hands so every single one of his brews will be brewed in house. That doesn’t exclude doing some collaboration brews in the future. But every beer wearing the Malcroys label will have the same dedication and “no compromise approach” as the beers being brewed in his own tiny brew kettle. Being small has advantages and disadvantages. You can’t brew big volumes and thus reaching a big audience is not easy. On the other hand, brewing on such small scale gives a lot of freedom to experiment, brew crazy beers or try ancient or strange techniques other bigger brewers cannot afford due to scale or time. That is what makes a small batch brewery so special; that is what Malcroy Brewing will try to do. Brewing special, honest beers, one small batch at a time.

After quite a bit of time, small tan head, over jet-black beer, pouring viscously. Tonka beans, sauced pipe tobacco, vanilla, extremely perfumey. Sweet-roasted, almost tarry vector, and then spice, but all of them integrated. Tonka beans, cinnamon bark, vanilla. Full bodied, utterly slick; medium to good carbonation; alcoholheat. Very special stout, spiced but nowhere overly sweet.

Stable, medium, lightly creamy head over veiled, very lively carbonated orange beer. Very spicy nose, orange, coriander and... grains of Paradise, I read. Orange cookies. Sweet - bit alcoholic - preserved orange. Spiciness, but not overwhelming. Fruitdrops, pear, orange, bubblegum. Quite creamy, wheatslickness. Very well-carbonated. Not bad, bit peculiar and hence intruiging.

Pours a bit viscous, jet-black beer with some desperate cream-coloured bubbles. Childrens' wafers, chocolate bars, vanilla, cookies. Dry-chocolate-y, dry cacao powder, bit ashy, fairly woody. Aftertaste strangely sports a hint of mint. Full bodied, viscous-oily. Medium carbonation. A pastry stout that is nowhere too sweet. More of that!

Draught β barrel Fluffy, pale tan head over dark brown-black beer. Intense Bourbon aroma's, light vanilla, oak, roasted oil. Bourbon, booze (the rum), vanilla, maple syrup obvious, also bit as agave syrup, honeyish, wood. Finish is more bitter(ish), and dry. Very good bite, chewy, oily - rich feel, alcoholheat. This is good - really. Only remark, I feel less incentive to replenish, which is what I usually like at Malcroys.

α barrel Pours viscously, to a uniform jet-black liquid. -1 point for the irritating, unnecessary wax. Sweet vanilla, Bourbon, rum, nuts, Brasil nuts, maple syrup. "Hard" woody combination with sweeter spirit notes, again nutty, some mocha. Maple, mole, incense. Obvious alcoholheat, absolutely full-bodied, viscous and utterly chewy. Sweet. That's the worst I can say about this beer (the wax, OK...) The rest - mindblowing.

Draught Very good, frothy dark cream head over virtually black beer, leaving fine lace. Ashes, liquorice, charcoal, sweet roast, bit of chocolate. Sweet-liquorice-roast, all mild and in very good balance. Some orangepeel, bit meaty esters. Ashes more retronasal and in retreat compared to the nose. Some sweetness backthroat. Warming up, some ureum. Feels better bodied than it probably is. Quite well-carbonated, almost refreshing. Good black IPA, not very dry to sweetish, but good balance.

Draught Small persistent white head over hazy orange-golden beer. Citrus/orangepeel, freshly cut fruit, mango, papaya,... Sharpish fruitflavours, lots of citrus, orange, mango, a (very) faraway hint of roasted bacon, and as many Malcroys products, an almost hidden sweetness in the finish, sweet grains. Alcohol remains as good as totally hidden (except the sweetness...). Too well bodied for being refreshing, but close. Abysmally dangerously drinkable.

Draught Small white, fine head over fully hazy orange-golden beer. Citrus, exotic fruit, bit floral, citruspeel, melon, and... - oats? Quite bitter, citrus- and other fruitpeel, faint peppery - bit as Szechuanpepper. There is a faint (fruity) sweetness underneath, gradually increasing. Well-carbonated, quite (hop)oily-slick, medium bodied. OK, good hazy IPA, if nothing out of the ordinary, but certainly not too sweet as so many.

Draught Small white rim over hazy orange/ochre beer. Jalapeño intense, capsicum, lime, Latin American cocktail, felt. Sweet-sharpish, mild but indeed hot capsaïcine, if held in check. Fruit as mango, citrus, other exotic fruit. Very lightly smoked impression. Burning sensation, gradually enhancing. Good carbonation, medium bodied. It's held in check, but all the same. I don't think capsaïcine belongs in beer.
