Description
Just as many others brewers, Kevin started brewing solely for fun and curiosity. After a while, the urge to share his brews with more people than only close friends, made him decide to go official with his “ Small Batch Brewery”. Stubborn as he is, he wanted to keep the whole brewing process in his own hands so every single one of his brews will be brewed in house. That doesn’t exclude doing some collaboration brews in the future. But every beer wearing the Malcroys label will have the same dedication and “no compromise approach” as the beers being brewed in his own tiny brew kettle. Being small has advantages and disadvantages. You can’t brew big volumes and thus reaching a big audience is not easy. On the other hand, brewing on such small scale gives a lot of freedom to experiment, brew crazy beers or try ancient or strange techniques other bigger brewers cannot afford due to scale or time. That is what makes a small batch brewery so special; that is what Malcroy Brewing will try to do. Brewing special, honest beers, one small batch at a time.

Draught Small rim over hazy yellow beer. Peppermint, as the sweets with a fine cedary background aroma. Again this peppermint taste. Sweetness, hidden under the strange minty freshness. Well... refreshing it would be if the ABV wasn't that hight. Surprising, typically Malcroys. Usually, peppermint flavour in a beer is disgusting. Not so here.

Black with tan head. Licorice, roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, earthy, licorice, lots of booze. Quite sweet and boozy bitter. Full bodied. Decent.

Few dark brown bubbles on viscous brown-black beer. Ashy, sulphur compound as from kale, vanilla stout, roast, and indeed, beetroot, chewing gum. Earthy, and there's iron here - lending it indeed a bloody streak. Roast, again something sulphury. Warming up, the beetroot becomes obvious. Viscous, oily, chewy, heavy; alcoholwarmth. Yes, awesome beer; this is what Fox does best.

Slow gushing to good, bit irregular white head over coldhazed orangey ochre beer. Ginger a mile out, other oriental root hergs, faint rosewater and capsicum. Ginger, capsaicine, with a marked burning hot finish. Hot, aggressive, overcarbonated. Nope. This isn't beer. Beer is supposed to be a thirstquenching drink.

Slowly building beige head, as fast gone again over cloudy brown-amber beer. Punch-in-the-face phenols. Smelling as entering an Irish country pub with the turf fire fully ablaze. Pure peat indeed. Very phenolic, smoked mackerel, tannine-rich tea, probably warmed over the above turf fire. Preserved red fruit, dito apricot, and Islay malt, of course. Warming up, wood. Quite dense without being heavy, alcoholwarmth, very oily-slick. Not overcarbonated, this one. Another experience richer, thanks Malcroys.

-1 point for the ridiculous, pompous wax. Pours as used motor oil into headless black liquid. Alcohol & fusels, drier roast, vanilla, young oak (ever so obvious), Bourbon-like. Warm roast & alcohol, fusels, fine spirits, charcoal, tannines, vanilla. Green herbs on... whiskey? Very full bodied, serious alcoholwarming and, yes, some alcoholthinning too. Low carbonation. Very special. The char is obvious, the young oak too - but to a balanced result which is not obvious at all!

Almost black beer with a cream-coloured, small head. Sweet and - indeed! - cedar, cypress and sandal, as well as new age herbs, holly. Sweet, resiny and again cedar, pine, Badedas. Very special perfumey - aromatic flavour, unlike anything else. Very well-bodied, chewy, slick. Good carbonation. Almost velvety texture. Loved "White cedar" from its first appearance. Nothing changed. Only, IMHO this isn't a black IPA... however, what it IS, is a bit more difficult to say.
