500ml bottle. 4.5%. Gluten Fre. Amber colour, off-white foam head leaving lacing and aroma of floral citrusy hops. Taste is malt caramel with zesty citrus hop, some woody pine and earthy bitterness. Light to medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry tangy bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

English style IPA actually from England, nice to see this 'original' form of what is now the craft beer world's flagship style still exist next to its American offspring. Thanks Jeremy for the bottle! Membranously lacing, egg-white, moussy head staying closed for most of the time, over a misty ochre-tinged, orangey peach blonde beer. Aroma of camomile and sweetclover flowers, green bitter garden herbs, bread crust, raw carrots, black peppercorns, potato juice, dried apricots, tonic water, honey. Clean fruitiness in the onset, hinting at pear peel, unripe banana and dried apricot, fizzy carbonation adding minerally 'crispness'; smooth bread crust-like, slightly peanutty maltiness, leading to a long, dry, hop bitter finish, peppery, floral and bitterroot-like, long-lasting. Noble in both the literal hoppy way and in its old-fashioned, very pleasurable balance of flavours, though the hop bitterness is very firm and overpowers only a light amount of sweetness; crisp, spicy and floral, old school but expressive, a very accomplished example of this particular substyle, highly enjoyed it.

Fresh bottle from this Somerset brewery, thanks to Jeremy! Modern English golden ale with thick and largely stable, eggshell-white, very moussy head and lightly hazy, warm and pure 'old gold' robe, the diffuse haze perturbed by strings of small-bubbled sparkling. Delicately hoppy aroma, impressions of lemon blossoms, cheese crackers, dried out starfruit slices, soap, grapefruit peel, cream, fresh camomile flowers, even 'green' hop oil straight from the hop cone. Cleanly fruity onset as is custom for an English ale, hints of green apple peel and unripe banana, very lightly sweetish and subtly sourish, lively carbonated but in an elegant, small-bubbled way, supple and bit soapy mouthfeel. Dry crackers and dried white bread malt body, sweetish with a thin creaminess to it (perhaps a last remnant of diacetyl, also very vaguely detectable in the nose), finishing florally and eventually even grapefruity hop bitter, resinous and spicy, quite strong for the style, but the light malt sweetishness continues beyond the finish as well, even with a vague honeyish touch to it. Firmly hopped in a (post)modern way, so in a sense an update of the more classic, late 20th-century English golden ale. Very enjoyable.

Best bitter from a local brewery in Cheddar, big thanks to Jean for the bottle. Papery lacing, egg-white, moussy, stable head over a hazy copper-tinged amber coloured beer with dark dots of dead yeast floating around in the end. Aroma of soggy toast, egg yolk (yeast autolysis, no doubt), dried garden herbs, camomile, fried tomato peel, dried apricots, butter, white pepper. Dried peach and apple peel fruitiness in the onset, dryish with medium carbonation, supple, lightly buttery mouthfeel, a tad oily. Butterscotch- and lightly peanut-like malt body, hoppy finish with a soft but effective, bit resiny bitterness to it, very floral, bit peppery. Well-balanced, quenching, correct but very traditional English bitter.
