Description
Brewery Vandenbroek is a small family brewery. Craft and trust in nature are our driving forces. The brewery-housing and brewery equipment are fully self-designed and self-built as a lambic brewery. We have two brass woodfired coppers, a traditional cooling tun where -after hours of cooking- the wort will cool the night over and a beer cellar filled with oak barrels.
This creates the base for some very special beers. The brewing process is based on pure manual labor with a minimum of machines. That’s why we call our beers handcrafted. The fermentation and ripening of our beers are all natural, without any artificial cooling, just as in the old times. As a result, the seasons clearly influence the taste. We believe that high quality does not necessarily mean constant quality. Plan to be surprised. Cheers!

Spritziger säuerlicher Beginn mit runden und natürlichen, insgesamt aber eher milden Pfirsichnoten. Weich, die Säure nimmt ab, bleibt aber in relevantem Maße präsent. Spritzig, Pfirsich, langer Nachhall. 10/11/12/12/8/12

Bottle at Café De Koffer, Groningen. Very fruity aroma with citrus, lemon, a touch of oak, bretty funk. Nicely puckering sour flavour with a dry finish. Medium bodied. Wow, complex bretty Gueuze, quite sour, pretty brilliant. A very pleasant surprise!

Bottle from Beerdome. Aroma is tart dried fruits, barnyard funk, caramel malt, touch of wood, stewed prunes, tart berries. Flavour is tart with some sweetness and a medium sourness. Body is medium with barely any carbonation. Tasty Flemish Brown that could do with some age.

Bottle from Beerdome. Aroma is oak, vinegar, barnyard funk, fruits, citrus, grain, and a hint of stone fruits. Flavour is quite sour and acidic with a little sweetness. Body is medium. Not nearly as good as regular Watergeus, it lacks balance, but by itself this is an enjoyable highly sour Lambic with a lovely fruity barnyard aroma.

From tap at Bierfestival Groningen 2019. Sour with an aroma of grapes, grainy malt, straw, tart fruits, and a little funk. Pretty young, lacks complexity. Nicely sour with low carbonation. Decent.

From tap at Bierfestival Groningen 2019. Weird earthy aroma with manure, sour fruits, funk, wood, some curious lactic aspects that shouldn't be there. Medium sour with a medium body. Messy and weird, not at all up to Vandenbroek standards.

Bottle from Beerdome. Aroma is grainy with straw, spicy rye, damp leaves, musty notes, veggies, funky in a strange way. Flavour is a bit sourish with a light bitterness. Body is medium. Seems really 'raw', interesting from a historical perspective, but do I want to drink it again? The answer is no.
