Black as coal. Complex aroma with loads of licorice, some coffee, and a surprising hint of red berries. Thick adn salty mouthfeel, loads of chewy malts. Huge, but tdoesn't get overpowering or cloying. Finishes malt sweet with good bitterness. Really balanced for such a huge beer. Thanks Gusler!

Outstanding. Opaque dark showing a little brown at the edge. Extra large rocky tan head. Rich bitter chocolate, roasted malt, and smoke aromas and flavors. The bitter chocolate is most apparent but all 3 flavors are well-balanced. Nice bittersweet finish. Smooooth.

Chewy, hoppy, very oily and resiny but turning slightly unbalanced with too much caramel flavour to really let the hops do their thing (in the back half and finish, I mean, thus reducing refreshment and drinkability, like Shadallion said).

Really dark brown. Hints of licorice and smoke in the aroma. Medium bodied, somewhat roasty, slightly malt sweet with bitter finish. Only a hint ofg smoke, I would have expected this beer to be more aggresive, but it is rather well balanced.

Another great beer from Stone. This one is not as edgy as Arrogant Bastard but still unique. Very dark color with a thin and lasting beige head. The aroma is smokey of course. Medium body, and the smoked flavor was not overpowering and complemented the malt perfectly. Slight bitter chocolate in the aftertaste. Well done.

Thought I’d finally give this a more realistic rating: Bottle. Dark amber, slightly orangish with a good beige head. Big hop aromas (pine/citrus) with a caramel backing. Clean tasting, surprisingly malty (toasted malts, some biscuit), but the citrus hop flavor with a bit of spiciness dominates. Flavors some together very well and strike a balance - an in your face balance when you consider this is a pale ale, but balance none the less. It still wins our blind taste tests. I’ve had this beer many times and it has never failed to impress. In a blind taste test of 8 southern california pale ale’s, this beer came first on 7 of the 8 taster’s lists.

Orange colored. Sweet & malty. Huge flowery cascade aroma. A relatively well balanced hop monster.

Cloudy yellow-gold color with a med head - fades quickly. Heavy lacing. Excellent complex hop nose: grapefruit, lemon rind, pine and grass (new mown hay). Tingly grassy lemony flavor with med malt balance. Malt is clean and straightforward (not even any caramelly notes). Very nice beer, if more than a bit one-dimensional. Followed by some seriously long hoppy belches.

Chocolatey, dry, with good complexity and balance, but only a touch of smoke.
