Tasted at the Barrelhouse Brewing Company Microbrew Fest on November 9. After trying some of Stone''s "bigger" beers like Ruination, Double Bastard and the Russian Imperial Stout this one seems tame by comparison. I found both the aroma and the flavor to be rather subdued. More malt character than the typical APA but still not a bad brew. A good intro to the Stone line.

Tasted at the Barrelhouse Brewing Company Microbrew Fest on November 9. I didn''t think this stacked up to Ruination but it is still a contender. Dry, biting hops keep it interesting but it is still easy to drink. Keep ''em coming Stone!

This beer will definitely make your tongue stand up and do a little jig. IPAs are not one of my favorite styles but I will make an exception in this case. Nice dark golden color with a medium thick off-white head. Sinus-clearing hops aroma with a nice floral touch. Senses-shattering hops flavor along with grapefruit and a little malt to keep your heart from stopping. Nice long, bitter finish. Excellent.

This is the first (but certainly will not be the last) high-ABV beer I tried since the limit was raised here in Ohio. Quite possibly the prettiest beer I have ever poured. 2/3 oily black evilness under 1/3 beautiful dark brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate and anise. Amazingly rich and complex flavor consisting of coffee, cloves, chocolate, and lots of other stuff I couldn''t wrap my brain around. This is not a beer, this is an experience. It is completely engrossing from beginning to end, and left me with a nice buzz to boot.

Black with a medium-brown head. Dark fruits (raisin, prune), and a little leafy hop. Dark chocolate palate with some woody notes. Chewy, deep fruitiness (raisin, dates). Full body. Unspectacular but serviceable. Scores well of course because it's hard for an impy not to.

Light copper; piney, foresty hop aroma. Hops just clobber the palate. Rich malts come in later - an earthy, resiny brew. Very intense, but I have to admit, I've never been thrilled with these over-the-top beers and wouldn't want to drink them as a general rule.

Black as coal. Complex aroma with loads of licorice, some coffee, and a surprising hint of red berries. Thick adn salty mouthfeel, loads of chewy malts. Huge, but tdoesn't get overpowering or cloying. Finishes malt sweet with good bitterness. Really balanced for such a huge beer. Thanks Gusler!

Outstanding. Opaque dark showing a little brown at the edge. Extra large rocky tan head. Rich bitter chocolate, roasted malt, and smoke aromas and flavors. The bitter chocolate is most apparent but all 3 flavors are well-balanced. Nice bittersweet finish. Smooooth.

Chewy, hoppy, very oily and resiny but turning slightly unbalanced with too much caramel flavour to really let the hops do their thing (in the back half and finish, I mean, thus reducing refreshment and drinkability, like Shadallion said).
