Aroma of malt, caramel, light resin, light pine, ripe fruits, some hops. Flavour is malty caramel, some sweetness, with a moderate bitterness in the aftertaste. The name Double Trouble makes you anticipate a Double IPA, but this is soft and malty even for a ’regular’ IPA. Decent and drinkable, but somehow I don’t think this is what they were going for.

Aroma of ripe fruits, citrus, yeast, quite herbal. Flavour is fruity and herbal, medium sweetness. The particular herbal notes give this beer a bit unfresh, unsavoury character. I prefer their IPA.

Aroma of sweet malts, caramel, yeast, candy sugar, light liquorice. Flavour is quite big malty and caramel sweetness. I think they took the sweetness a a bit too far. Body and mouthfeel are fine.

Tap at 6e Noordelijk Kerst- en Winterbierenfestival, Hoogeveen. Aroma is bready malt, sweetish fruity notes, apples, hint of yeast. Flavour is light to moderate sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Doesn’t taste fresh at all, old hops and ripe fruits. Decent at best, dull beer.

From tap at 5e Noordelijk Lentebierenfestival, Leeuwarden. The brewer explained that he started Eisbocking his Dubbel because he was left with a large surplus of his Dubbel. Aroma is quite boozy with sweet caramel malt, massive raisins and tons of alcohol. Flavour is very sweet and cloying. Body is full and sticky. No balance at all, has the roughness of an experimental unrefined beer, but overall not a bad slow sippin’ Eisbock.

Bottle from Kisjes Slijterijen, Meppel. Aroma is grainy pilsener malt, lightly wheat, mild citrus peel with a touch of grassy hop and light fruity notes. Don’t get much of the promised aromatic hops... Flavour is light sweet and light to moderate bitter. Body is light and watery. Drinks like a simple Pilsener, disappointing.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is spicy yeast with banana, coriander, sweet pale malt, mild sugar and citrussy notes. Flavour is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. A fine Tripel, sweet but not excessively so. Pleasant.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is sweet barley malt, caramel toffee, peat, smoke, with some metallic notes. Flavour is medium sweet and above moderate bitter. Body is above medium. Sweetish with some metallic notes, but I dig the peaty and malty aroma. Enjoyable.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is beany coffee with dark malt, coffee grounds, some milky lactose, roast, more coffee throughout. Flavour is above moderate sweet with a mild roasty bitterness. Body is medium, lightly creamy with (too) low carbonation. A bit unrefined, lacking in carbonation, but the coffee fiend in me approves.
