My friend Artem bought this for me, other wise I would not have paid the $14 flute price at the Beer Table. It’s difficult to really describe a well made pils, cause in a way they are rather simple but glorious in there simplicity. On the other hand, the flaws become so evident that it becomes easy to make a bad one. Well this on is good because there aren’t any flaws. It pours a thicker shade of golden than one usually sees from a pils. In general its a slightly sweeter and earthy pils with a slightly thicker body. Put all those things together and you got something wonderful and extremely quaffable. Highly recommended if you can find it for a better price.

Thanks to JoeMcPhee for sharing this - this poured a very cloudy red - at first, the aroma and flavor were dominated by strong phenolic character, but as the beer was allowed to breathe, that quality faded, and this turned out to be quite a complex beer - extremely earthy flavor, with a lot of sour/acidic cherry skins and pits - the bacteria fermentation is evident; quite a bit of lacto character - little sweetness - lightly funky, with a slight vinegar-ish bite at the end - interesting.

750ml bottle @Joe’s NYC Gathering–pours a white ring with cloudy amber color. Aroma is sweet medium malt, some sharp. Taste is sweet, then medium malt, some sharp. Minimal carbonation.

750 ml bottle opened with quite a pop. Aromas of citrus, unknown spice and yeast? Hazy orange tinged gold color with a minimal white head. Medium body with creamy carbonation. A slightly brett-like sour for flavor with light spice, some yeast, and a lot of lighter fruits. I think I detect a little rose oil on the palate. Only a slight floral hoppiness. Reasonably dry. There’s a lot going on here. It’s very fresh and refreshing. A session ale for sure.

[Italian Blind tasting @ yespr, Bottle 38#] Hazy amber with tiny off white head. Sourish aroma with yeasty, fruity and oxidized notes. Sour and fruity flavor with berries, spices and yeasty notes.

Cloudy blond color. Light aroma, both fruity and soapy. Medium body, with a too high vegetables flavor and some sourness. And the hops are gone… This beer didn’t age well.
The above is the comment from the blind tasting. This beer has been brewed only once at the end of 2006 celebrating the 10 years of the Birrificio Italiano; as Agostino (the brewer) anticipated me last Christmas, unfortunately the beer didn’t age well, and that’s reflected in this notes. Well, next Christmas we will have a better one! This beer doesn’t change my opinion that the BI is the best brewery in Italy :D

Bottle. 75cl. Unclear medium red color with a average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white - light red head. Aroma is moderate cherry, barnyard, vinegar, acidic, sour, wood, notes of medicine. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet, moderate acidic and acetic (vinegar) with a average to long duration, and a dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. (180408)

Bottle. 75cl. [2007]. Light unclear medium orange color with a huge, frothy, excellent lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy black currant, black currant sour and sweet. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and light to moderate acidic with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (180408) 7/4/73/15 Bottle. 75cl. [Vintage 2004]. Clear medium amber orange color with a large, frothy, excellent lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, vintage, notes of black currant, moderate yeasty, acidic. Beer #38 of the Mafia blindtasting, thanks to Alex for this rare beer!. 1L bottle. Pours hazy orange with a lacing white head. Raddish and acidic aroma, very strange. Flavour is acidic and spiced. Finish is dry and acidic. Terrible. No wonder the brewer wasn’t about this.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a lacing white head. Aroma is mild yeasty and solid spiced. Flavour is sweet malty with a light yeasty note. Shows a light spice note and mild sweet fruity flavour into the finish.
